In addition, these rates may change following rough <br />grading of the site. <br />5.7 Pavement <br />To provide support for paving of the proposed pedestrian access and vehicular <br />driveways and parking spaces, the subgrade soils should be prepared as <br />recommended in Section 5.1, Earthwork and Grading. The preparation of the <br />paving area subgrade should be performed immediately prior to placement of the <br />base course. Proper drainage of the paved areas should be provided since this <br />will reduce moisture infiltration into the subgrade and increase the life of the <br />paving. <br />5.7.1 Aqqregate Base Course <br />The base course for hot mix asphalt (HMA) concrete paving should meet <br />the specifications for Class 2 Aggregate Base as defined in Section 26 of <br />the latest edition of the State of California Department of Transportation <br />Standard and Specifications. Alternatively, the base course could meet the <br />specifications for untreated base as defined in Section 200-2 of the latest <br />edition of Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction <br />(Greenbook). Crushed Miscellaneous Base (CMB) may be used for the <br />base course provided the geotechnical consultant evaluates and tests it <br />before delivery to the site. <br />5.7.2 Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) <br />The required HMA concrete paving and base thicknesses will depend on <br />the expected wheel loads and volume of traffic (Traffic Index or TI). <br />Assuming that the paving subgrade will consist of engineered fill with an <br />R-value of at least 30 compacted to at least 90 percent relative <br />compaction based on ASTM Test Method D 1557-10, the minimum <br />recommended paving thicknesses are presented in the following table <br />based on the design procedures outlined in Chapter 630 of the Highway <br />Design Manual (HDM). <br />- 28 - <br />Leighton <br />SL Rvcd 2019.01.21
