Lutzky Associates Development, LP - Geotechnical Investigation
MACTEC Project 4953-03-2631
September 18,2003
Direct shear tests were performed on selected undisturbed natural samples to determine the
strength of the soils. The tests were performed at increased moisture content and at various
surcharge pressures. The yield-point values determined from the direct shear tests are presented on
Figure A-3, Direct Shear Test Data.
Confined consolidation tests were performed on undisturbed samples to determine the
compressibility of the soils. Water was added to the samples during the tests to illustrate the effect
of moisture on the compressibility. The results of the tests are presented on Figure A-4,
Consolidation Test Data.
To determine the percentage of fines (percent passing through a No. 200 sieve), tests were
performed in selected samples. The results of these tests are presented on the boring logs.
The Expansion Index of the soils was determined by testing one sample of the upper soil in
accordance with the Uniform Building Code Standard 29-2 method. The results of the test are
presented on Figure A-5, Expansion Index Test Data.
Hydroconsolidation tests were performed on one undisturbed sample of the upper soils to
determine the hydroconsolidation potential of the purous upper natural soils. The results of the
tests are presented on Figures A-6, Hydroconsolidation Test Data.
The results of prior corrosion testing in the vicinity of the site are attached at the end of this
appendix.
A-2
