EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR SMALL-SCALE PV SYSTEMS
MICRo-INVERTER
The information in this guideline is inrended to help local jurisdictions and conrracrors identify when PV sysrem inshllarions
are simple. needing only a basic review and when an insEllation is more complex. lt is likely rhar 50%-75% of all residenrial
systems will comply wirh these simple fiiteria. For projects that fail to meet rhe simple crireria, resolurion steps have been
suggested to provide as a path to permit approval.
Reqireil InJotmation for Pennit:
L Site plan showing location of major components on the property. This drawing need not be exactly ro scale. but it
should represent relative location of components ar site (see supplied example site plan). PV arrays on dwellings
wirh a 3'perimeter space ar ridge and sides may not need separate hre service review.
2. Electrical diagram showing PV array confrgurarion. wrring sysrem, overcurrent protection, inverte( disconnects.
required signs, and ac connection to building (see supplied s6ndard elecrrical diagram).
f. Specification sheets and inshllation manuals (if available) for all manufacrured componenrs including, bur not
limited to. PV modules, inverter(s), combiner box. disconnecrs, and mounting system.
Step 1 : Structural Review o[ PV Array Mounting System
Is the array to be mounted on a defrned, permitted roof structurc?ves lno
U No due to non-compliant roof or a grcund mount, submit completed. u/orhsheet Jor the structure WNSI
Roof Infonnntion:
L Is the roohng type Iighrweighr (Yes = composirion. lighrweighr masonry metal. erc Yes
IJNo, submit completed worhsheet lor rooJ strucntre WfiSl (TVo = heayy masonry, slate, etc...)
2. PV modules, utility-interac(ive inverters, and combiner boxes are identiied for use in PV systems.
2. The Pv array is composed of 4 series srrings or less per inverrer.
f. The lotal inverter capacity has a continuous ac power output 13.440 Watts or less
4. The ac interconnectron point is on the load side of service disconnecting means (690.64(8)).
5. One ofthe standard electrical diagrams(E1.1, El.la, El.lb.orEl.lc) can be used to accurately represenr rhe PV
system. lnteractive PDF diagrams are available at www.solarabcs.org/permitting.
Filt out the stand.ord, electricdt diagram convletely. A guide to the electrical diagram is provided to help the awlicant
understand each blank to fU in.
