.
EXPEDITED PERMIT PRoCESS FoR SMALL-SCALE PV SYSTEMS
MICRO-INVERTER
The informalon in this guideline is intended ro help local jurisdictions and conrractors idenify when PV sysrem insallations
are simple. needing only a basic review and when an installation is more complex. Ir is likely that 50% -75% of all residenrial
systems will comply with these simple criteria. For projecrs that fail ro meet the simple criteria. resolurion steps have been
suggested to provide as a path ro permir approval.
Reqdreal Inforfiation fot Pefinit:
1. Site plan showing locarion of maJor components on rhe properry. This drawing need nor be exacrly ro scale. bur ir
should represent relative location of components at site (see supplied example site plan). PV arrays on dwellings
wirh a 3'perimeter space at ridge and sides may not need separale hre service review.
2. Electrical diagram showing PV array confrguration, wiring system. overcurrenr protecrion, inverter, disconnects,
required signs. and ac connecrion ro building (see supplied standard elecrrical diagram).
3. Speci6cation sheets and installation manuals (iF available) for all manufacrured componenrs including, bur nor
limited to, PV modules, inverter(s), combiner box. disconnects, and mounring sysrem.
Step 1 : Structural Review of PV Aray Mounting System
Is the array to be mounted on a de6ned, permitted rcof structure? EyesEno
lJ No due to non-compliant rooJ ot a ground mounl submit completed wotksheet Jor the structure WKSI .
Roof lr{oflnatiofl:
l. ls the roohng type lightweight (Yes = composirion, Iighrweighr masonry meral, erc. .)Yes
IJ No, submit completed worksheet for roof structure WKSI (No = heayy masonry, slate, etc. ..)
2. Does the roof have a single roof coveringz Eyes EUo
f No, submit completed worhsheet Jor roof sfiucture WKS I .
3. Provide merhod and rype of weatherproohng roof penerrarions (e.g. flashing, caulk)Flashin
M ounttng Ey st efi Informati on :
l. Is the mounting structure an e_!Sineered product designed to mount PV modules with no more than an 18" gap
beneath the module frames? LjYes LINo
If No, provid.e details oJ structural attachment certified by a design WJessionaL
2. For manufactured mounting sysrems, hll out information on the mounring system below:
a. N4ounting Sys tem Manufacrurer SWH producr Name and 14o6"11Solar Mount
b. Total Weight of PV Modules and Rails
c. Total Number of Attachment Points
598 bs
18
d. Weight per Atrachment Point (b+c) 3322 lbs (rfgreater than 45 lbs, see WlGl)
e. N4aximum Spacing Between Arrachment Points on a Rail 72 nches (see product manual for
maximum spacing allowed based on maximum design wind speed)
f. Toral Surface Area of PV Modules (square feet)229.U
g. Distribured Weighr of PV Module on Roof (b + f)2.61 Ibsi ft'?
IJ distributed weight ol the PV system is greatet than 5 lbste, see WKSI .
Step 2: Electrical Review o[ PV System (Calculations lor Electrical Diagram)
ln order for a PV s)6tem to be consider€d for an expedited permit process, the following must apply:
l. Pv modules, utility-interactive inverters. and combiner boxes are identihed for use in Pv systems.
2. The PV array is composed of 4 series strings or less per inverter.
3. The total inverter capacity has a continuous ac power output 13,440 Watts or less
4. The ac interconnection poinr is on the load side of service disconnecring means (690.64(8)).
5. One of rhe sEndard elecftical diagrams (El .l , E l .l a, E l .1b, or E1 .1c) can be used ro accurarely represenr rhe Pv
system. lnteractive PDF diagrams are available at www.solarabcs.org/permifting.
Fill out the standard electricd.l diagram completely. A g\id.e to the electrical diagram is ptovided to help the arylicont
understand each blank to lll in. If the electrical system is morc conpler than the standard electrical diagram can elfectively
communicate, proyide an alterna.tiye dio.gran with awropiate detail.
2 EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR PV SYSTEMS - MICRO-INVERTER
