Project No. D-3885-06 <br />Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish <br />placement, and compaction requirements as General Fill. Roots, branches and other <br />organic debris are not permitted within the compacted topsoil layer. <br />When backfilling around footings and compacting behind retaining walls and flexible <br />retaining structures, the Contractor shall use lightweight compaction equipment such as <br />hand-operated equipment, shoring, or other means to avoid over-stressing structural <br />walls. When using lighnveight compaction equipment. the fill materials shall be spread in <br />horizontal layers not greater than 6 inches thick, measured before compaction. <br />As an alternative, sand-cement slurry may be used to backfill trenches. The slurry shall <br />have minimum cement content of 3 sacks per cubic yard within the zone of influence of <br />foundations and other settlement sensitive structures. A minimum of 2 sacks per cubic <br />yard of slurry shall be used elsewhere within building limits, and a minimum of one sack <br />per cubic yard of slurry shall be used elsewhere. Slurry shall not be used in those areas <br />where such placement would result in the obstruction of water flow, and is subject to the <br />approval of the Geotechnical Engineer. <br />3.3 Protection of Work and Adjacent Properties <br />3.3.1 During Construction - The Contractor shall grade all excavated surfaces to provide <br />good drainage away from construction slopes and prevent ponding of water. He shall <br />control surface water and the transport of silt and sediment to avoid damage to adjoining <br />properties or to finished work on the site.
