Project No. D-1885-06
Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish
Subject to our review and testing of subgrade "R" values during grading, we recommend
the following pavement section for the parking areas for the tested R-value of l8:
Assumed A.C A.B.
Traffic Condition Traffic Index _(r!)(i!)
Parking stalls and 5.5 4 8
driveways
Driveways for heary 6.0 4 l0
trucks (trash, etc.)
For fire lanes, a pavement section of 6" concrete reinforced with #3 bars at 12" o.c. both
ways, over 8" aggregate base compacted to 95% is suitable. A concrete strength of 3,000
psi is acceptable. Expansion joints can be placed at l0 feet o.c. max.
At the parking and driveway areas, the top 12 inches of subgrade should be excavated;
moisture conditioned and recompacted immediately prior to placing the rock base and
asphalt concrete. Rock-base material should be class II aggregate base compacted to
minimum 95 percent of its maximum density.
Asphalt concrete should be Performance Grade PG 64-10,318" maximum aggregate size
and compacted to 95 percent ofHveem laboratory test.
Periodic maintenance of asphalt concrete within two to three years period must be done
because cracks in asphalt concrete are very common due to temperature changes between
summer and winter and day and night and also due to moisture change since both asphalt
concrete and concrete are permeable. Seal coating, slurry seal, filling the gaps - crack
sealing or crack filling and some other methods are generally used during maintenance.
Lateral Earth Pressures:
For substructures subject to lateral earth pressure (e.g. any retaining walls lor site
development, etc.), the following design parameters should be used:
34
f
I
T
I
t
I
I
I
l
t
7
T
T
l.t
I
I
I
I
I
