The solar panels shall be mounted in accordance with the m ost recent Unirac instalation manual.
If during solar panel installation, the roof framing m em bers ap p ear unstable or deflect non-
uniformly, our office should be notified before proceeding with the installation.
2. The max i mum allowable withdrawal force for a 5/16? lag screw is 229 Ibs per inch of penetration as
identified in the National Design Standards (N D S } of timber construction specifications. Based on
a m i nim um penetration depth of 2/4?, the allowable capacity per connection is greater than the
design withdrawal force (demand). Considering the variable factors for the existing roof frami ng
and installation tolerances, the connection using one 5/16? diameter lag screw with a m i nim um of
2%" em bedm ent will be adequate and will include a sufficient factor of safety.
3. Considering the wind speed, roof slopes, size and spacing of framing members, and condition of
the roof, the panel supports shall be placed no greater than 72? on center.
B a s e d on t h e a b o v e ev al uation , th i s of f i ce certi fies th at w ith t h e rac k i ng a n d m o u n t i n g s p ec i f i ed, the exi sti ng
r oo f s y s t e m will a d e q u a t e l y s u p p o r t the additional l o adi ng i m p o s e d by t h e s o l a r s y s t e m .
