The solar panels shall be mounted in accordance with the m os t recent Unirac installation manual.
If during solar panel installation, th e roof framing m em bers appear unstable or deflect non-
uniformly, our office should be notified before proceeding with the installation.
2. The maxi mum allowable withdrawal force for a 5/16? lag screw is 235 Ibs per inch of penetration as
identified in the National Design Standards (N D S ) of timber construction specifications. Based on
a m i n im um penetration depth of 2%?, th e allowable capacity per connection is greater than the
design withdrawal force (demand). Considering the variable factors for the existing roof framing
and installation tolerances, the connection using on e */16? diameter lag screw with a minimum of
2%" em bedm en t will be adequate an d will include a sufficient factor of safety.
3. Considering the wind speed, roof slopes, size an d spacing of framing members, and condition of
the roof, th e panel supports shall be placed no greater than 72? on centers.
4. Panel supports connecti ons shall be staggered to distribute load to adjacent frami n g members.
B a s e d o n t h e a b o v e ev al uation , th i s off i ce certi fi es t h a t w i t h t h e rac k i n g a n d m o u n t i n g sp eci f ied, t h e exi sti n g
r oo f s y s t e m will a d e q u a t e l y s u p p o r t t h e addition al l o a d i n g i m p o s e d by t h e s ol ar s y s t e m .
