Exits and Emergency Escapes: <br />All windows changeouts on existing residential structures may be the same size as the <br />original windows provided: <br />1. The replacement window is of the same type and style as the original. <br />2. It is installed in the existing opening. <br />3. Permits are obtained. <br />Basements in dwelling units and every sleeping room below the fourth story shall have at <br />least one operable window or door approved for emergency escape or rescue which shall <br />open directly into a public street, public alley, yard or exit court. The emergency door or <br />window shall be operable from the inside to provide a full, clear opening without the use of <br />separate tools. <br />Minimum size and dimensions of emergency escape windows: <br />1. An openable area of not less than 5.7 square feet (5.0 square feet for ground-floor openings); <br />2. A minimum 24 inch clear openable height; <br />3. A minimum clear openable width of 20 inches; <br />4.
