SCE Santa Ana
October 25,2019
Project No. 3.31634
Page 7

10. EXPANSIVE SOILS

Expansive soils are soils that swell when subjected to moisture. Shrink/swell potential is
the relative change in volume to be expected with changes in moisture content; that is, the
extent to which the soil shrinks as it dries or swells when it gets wet. The extent of
shrinking and swelling is influenced by the amount and kind of clay in the soil. Shrinking
and swelling of soils causes’ damage to building foundations, roads, and other structures.
Soils in the immediate vicinity of the building site consist of silty fine to coarse sands
overlying lean clays and silts. Based on laboratory testing, there is a very low to low
shrink/swell potential at the site.

11. FLOOD HAZARDS

Based upon a review of the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map, 06059C0276J, effective
on12/03/2009; the site is located in Zone X - outside the 0.2% annual chance flood plain.

12. TSUNAMIS

Tsunamis are long wavelength seismic sea waves (long compared to the ocean depth)
generated by sudden movements of the ocean bottom during submarine earthquakes,
landslides, or volcanic activity. Based on a review of the Orange County, California Tsunami
Inundation Maps for Emergency Planning (2009), the site is not located within a tsunami
inundation area.

13. LANDSLIDES

Based on our review of published landslide hazard maps, geologic maps, and aerial
photographs, as well as our site reconnaissance, landslides or indications of deep-seated

slope instability was not observed at the project site. Further, the site area is generally flat
and there are no significant slopes in close proximity, nor are there any planned as part of
the proposed project. Landslides are therefore not a design consideration.

52 of 100
1327 S Grand Ave
12/12/2024
