CRANE INFORMATION

A crane support is a component to the metal building system provided. The types of cranes
that may be supported by the metal building include Overhead Top Running, Underhung, and
Jib cranes. Typical support may include crane beams, support brackets, and sway bracing.
The direct supports including runway beams and support brackets are designed for the
controlling fatigue load from the applicable building code load combinations with impact while
the primary framing system is designed for the crane loading without impact or fatigue. When
multiple crane systems are supported by the building MBMA guidance is used for the
investigation of combined loading combinations.
Building longitudinal bracing is typically tiered at the crane elevation as a load path to accept
crane loads and distribute them to the foundation. Crane runway beams are typically used to
transfer crane stop and longitudinal crane loads to the metal building bracing system. When
cap channels are used to aid in lateral deflection, they are stitch welded to the runway beam
and the two are designed as a composite member.

47 1901 N Fairview St & Bldg A, B,
C, F & 1919 N Fairview St Bldg E
4/11/2024
