City of Santa Ana Public Library Renovation
Group 4 Architecture Research + Planning, Inc.
RFI #121 – April 16, 2025 Group 4 Project No. 22575-01

10 2226-4 OPERABLE PARTITIONS
b. Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials beyond normal wear.
2. Warranty Period, Panels: Five years from date of Substantial Completion.
3. Warranty Period, Fixed Top Seals, Track, Carriers, and its Component Parts: Ten
years from date of Substantial Completion.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Seismic Performance: Operable panel partitions shall withstand the effects of earthquake
motions determined according to SEI/ASCE 7.
1. The term "withstand" means "the panels will remain in place without separation of any
parts from the system when subjected to the seismic forces specified."
B. Acoustical Performance: Provide operable panel partitions tested by a qualified testing
agency for the following acoustical properties according to test methods indicated:
1. Sound-Transmission Requirements: Operable panel partition assembly tested for
laboratory sound-transmission loss performance according to ASTM E90, determined
by ASTM E413, and rated for not less than the STC indicated.
2. Noise-Reduction Requirements: Operable panel partition assembly, identical to
partition tested for STC, tested for sound-absorption performance according to
ASTM C423, and rated for not less than the NRC indicated.
3. STC: 52.
2.2 MANUFACTURERS
A. Basis-of-Design Product: The design for the operable partition is based on the manufacturer
identified below. Subject to compliance with requirements, provide the named product or a
comparable product by one of the following:
1. Basis-of-Design: KWIK-WALL 3000 Series.
2. Advanced Equipment Corporation.
3. Modernfold, Inc.
4. Or approved equal.
2.3 PANELS
A. Product: Manually operated, top-supported, flat panels hinged in pairs of two.
1. Panels shall be nominally 4” thick, of equal width, and continuously hinged.
2. Height: 9’-0”.
3. Panel faces shall be laminated to appropriate substrate to meet the STC requirement
specified in Acoustical Performance Article herein.
a. Face Material: Fabric Finish, gray.
b. Horizontal Splice: None.
4. Frames shall be of 16 gauge painted galvannealed steel with integral factory applied
aluminum vertical edge and face protection. Face finish shall wrap around the vertical
panel edges and provide no protective vertical face trim.
5. Vertical sound seals shall be of tongue and groove configuration, ensure panel-to-
panel alignment and prevent sound leaks between panels.
6. Horizontal top seals shall be fixed continuous contact dual 4-finger vinyl.
7. All standard panels shall have bottom retractable seals which provide a minimum of 2”
floor clearance during movement of the partition, including all panels adjacent to pass
door(s).
