introduction
This report desgribes, illustrates, ind cxplams the Structural Calculation Packet for
SnapNracks Series 100 Mounting System, dated 4/12/20]2. The calculations have been
perfolmed in accordance with the 2012 Intcrnational Building Code (IBC). The racking
system has been dcsigned to withstand code-lirescribed forces due zo its own weight, the
weight of the boli pan,16, the snow loads, and both the wind and sell:mic forces.
Rail Snans
This rcpor[ covers two ditrcren; material options for the system rails. Although they ur
both aluminum. one rail option uses a 6063 alloy (25 W yield) and Lhe other uses a 6005
alloy (33 ksiyield)
Despite having difrelent yield strengtht both typeb of ruils support the PV panels As for
the tails themseli'cs. they are bupponed by mounting hardware which attaches them to Ihe
roof structure with spans thai arc expressed in inches. Refer lo the tables below for rail
spans under varying conditions of rail alloy and roof height. Shaded cclls require an edge
zoncadjusimcm (sce dewils following charts).
»tes for Tibles IA thru ZH
1. Determine thc mean roof height. til[ angle. and mil alloy < i f you arc un5ure. m
the 6063 alloy values) For me,n roof heighas less than 30 feel use Table IA,aA
for till angles less ilan 19 degrees. Table 18/28 for lili angles between 20 806 36
degrees, Table 10/2C for till angles between 37 and 45 degree, and Table 1 D/2D
for ti[£ angles between 46 and 60 degrees. For mean roof heights between 31 and
60 feet u/ Table IE/ZE for tilt angles less rhan 19 dog™ch. Table IF,21' for till
angles between 20 and 36 degrees, Table 10/20 for till angles between 37 and 45
degrees, and Table I HaH for tilt angles between 46 and 60 degrees
2. Dclcnnine the wind and snow load for th project site Ihon, the building
department. Make certain lo use 2012 IBC wind loads. Locate the wind load in
the table across lop rows and me snow load down Ihe left columns lo find
corresponding maximum rail span.
3. For snow loads. column Pg equals the ground snow,
