When not inside the sign, they need a 3 foot high x 3 foot wide x 3 foot deep workspace. <br />Transformers are permitted to be located in attics or canopies provided there is a <br />passageway at least 3 feet high x 2 feet wide with a minimum 12 inch catwalk/walkway <br />from the point of entry. Transformers must be securely fastened and independent of T- <br />bar when above a suspended ceiling. No part of siqn mav be fed with flexible cord when <br />located above T-bar ceilinqs. CEC 600.21(E&F) & 400.8 <br />8. Adequate illumination shall be provided for all working spaces about electrical <br />equipment. This applies to attics and canopies when entry is required to service or <br />inspect the equipment. At least one switch is required at entrance. CEC 110.34 & 600.21 <br />9. Doorway to an attic or canopy space shall be minimum 3 feet by 2 feet wide. <br />CEC 600.21(E) <br />E. Open neon outline or highlight lighting. <br />1. To be treated as a sign by this department. However, Section D-5 & D-6 of this bulletin <br />will not apply. <br />2. Neon tubing shall be located where not normally exposed to physical damage. Open <br />neon tubing below 9 feet shall be protected from physical damage by an approved <br />shielding method. CEC 600.30 and 1 10.34(E) <br />F. Light-Emitting Diode (LED) Signs <br />1. Will be treated as a sign by this department. All sign rules in sections A, B, C, D, F, and <br />G will apply as appropriate. <br />2. LED illumination for signage must be a listed or recognized component. Many LED <br />manufacturers specify particular brands and models of transformers some do not. <br />Manufacturer information to clarify this issue is required on LED sign plans. <br />3. Unlisted LEDs may not be used in an electrical sign or as permanently installed <br />illumination. 110.3 <br />4. Please have packaging or catalog cut-sheets on hand for inspector to review when LED <br />modules do not bear listing symbols. <br />G. Inspections <br />1. Contact an Electrical Inspector one (1) workday (minimum) in advance of installation to <br />arrange a site meeting on dav of installation. <br />2. Call for inspection Monday through Friday, 8:00- 8:30 am. at (714) 647-5821. Approved <br />prints and the job card must be on site for inspection. <br />Page 2 of 2
