Project No. VP-6214-01 <br />Verizon Wireless — Fisher Floral <br />Soil Conditions <br />The underlying soil consists of topsoil, silty sand (SM) with little <br />dark brown in color, moist, medium dense in consistency. A more detailed profile <br />of the material encountered is shown on Plate I-1 in Appendix A. <br />Faulting and Seismicity <br />The project site is in the highly seismic Southern California region within the influence of <br />several fault systems that are active or potentially active. An active fault is defined by the <br />State of California as a "sufficiently active and well-defined fault" that has exhibited <br />surface displacement within the Holocene time (about the last 11,700 years). A <br />potentially active fault is defined by the State as a fault with a history of movement <br />within Pleistocene time (between 11,700 and 1.6 million years ago). <br />These active and potentially active faults can produce potentially damaging seismic <br />shaking at the site. It is anticipated that the project site will periodically experience <br />ground acceleration as the result of small to strong magnitude earthquakes. Other active <br />faults without surface expression (blind faults) or other potentially active seismic sources <br />are not currently zoned and may be capable of generating an earthquake. <br />Based on our review of geologic maps for the site and vicinity, no State of California <br />designated Earthquake Fault Zone (Alquist-Priolo) is shown to be located on the site. The <br />potential for direct surface fault rupture is considered unlikely. <br />Faults Close to the Site <br />USGS National Seismic Hazard Maps for Source parameters interactive query has been <br />used to determine the closest fault to the site within 50 miles and has been tabulated on <br />Table — 1 in Appendix B. <br />3 <br />
