+1 (805) 312-8508 <br />INFO@EEEADVISOR.COM <br />PAGE 43 <br />Railing/Guardrail Disclaimer <br />The state of California's new deck railings and guardrails code stipulates that all newly <br />constructed deck railings must have a minimum height of 42 inches, and stairways must have a <br />height between 34-38 inches measured from the nose of the steps surface to the top of the <br />guardrail. However, some older railings may have been built in accordance with older railing <br />codes, which require a height of 36 inches for guardrail (30-34 inches for stairways). <br />Additionally, it's important to note that current code mandates railing openings to be no more than <br />4 inches wide. However, older railings with openings up to 6 inches wide may be grandfathered <br />in.
