CITY OF SANTA ANA
Planning and Building Agency
n r ,:Ns
Mr. Amir Houriani PageApproved
Project No. 32-6235-00 FOR PERMIT ISSUANCE
1601-1607 N. Bristol Street
August 29, 2022
Master ID:
All excavations resulting from removal of existing obstructions (e.g., foundations, tre DAW) should be
backfilled with soil compacted to at least 90% of the maximum dry density as deter -
1557. If any cesspools or seepage pits are encountered during grading, these underground structures
should be backfilled with vibrated gravel, or a slurry mix to five feet below finish grade. The upper five
feet should be backfilled with compacted soil.
It is recommended that the proposed building be supported on conventional foundations bearing on newly
compacted fill. For placement of the fill, all materials within the footprint of the building shall be removed
and recompacted to a minimum depth of two feet below the bottom of the foundations. The newly
compacted fill shall also extend horizontally a minimum of two feet beyond the edge of the foundations.
All conventional foundations for the structure should bear in the same material.
FILL PLACEMENT
The on -site soils may be re -used for placement of newly compacted fill. Fill soils should be cleared of
debris, organic materials, and oversized particles (larger than six inches) before placing as compacted fill.
Fill should be placed in horizontal lifts of six to eight inches, moisture conditioned to about 3% above
optimum moisture content, and compacted to at least 90% of the maximum dry density as determined by
ASTM: D-1557.
A shrinkage value of less than about 5% is estimated for the on -site soils as a result of compaction. Any
imported fill that will be used to support structures should be tested and approved by the
geotechnical engineer or his/her representative. The imported fill should have an expansion index
(EI) less than 20.
All exposed excavated bottoms should be observed by the geotechnical engineer or his/her
representative prior to placement of fill to ensure the subgrade is uniform and non -yielding.
Following observation of the excavated bottoms, the exposed surfaces should be scarified to a depth of at
least eight inches, moisture -conditioned to about 3% above optimum moisture, and recompacted to a
minimum of 90% of the maximum dry density as determined by ASTM:D-1557. If soft or loose soil
conditions are encountered at any excavation bottom, deeper excavations shall be performed until a firm
bottom is reached.
The placement of compacted fill is to be performed under the observation and testing of a
representative of our firm to confirm that the required degree of compaction has been obtained.
Where compaction is less than that specified, additional compaction effort should be made with
adjustment of the moisture content as necessary, until the specified compaction is obtained.
n r= A.G.I.
