Job Name: Muller Santa Ana
Job Number: 2021-SRS004
Date: 11/9/21
Canopy Design (See Appendix A):
The canopy was designed in RISA-3D. The results for that analysis as well as model
views of the framing are provided in Appendix A.
In the RISA model, the structural steel members and nodes are labeled based on the
gridlines in order to make association easier. For instance, the column at the
intersection of Lines A and 13 is column "Col A13." The beams along Line 7 are
"B7-1, 2, 3, etc." starting from Line A and counting higher toward Line F. The jack
beams that span over the end drive aisle area are labeled B-Jack-Line C or D.
The purlins are labeled slightly different. The first purlin line at the west side, for
instance, is "P1-#" with the first bay at the north all being number 1 purlins; in other
words, the purlin at the west most line that is furthest north is P1-2 (there is no purlin
in the northern most bay at Line 1) and the purlin at the fifth line from the west and in
the northern most bay is P5-1.
In the model, the lateral resisting system in the east/west direction is a Steel Ordinary
Moment Frame. These moment frames occur along number Lines from 1 to 15. The
lateral resisting system in the north/south direction is a Steel Ordinary Concentrically
Braced Frame. Lines A, C, D and F all have rod bracing braced frames. Lines C and D
have significantly more rod braces due to larger tributary area and in an effort to
reduce lateral loading to the columns along the ramp.
The results for member sizes based on the RISA model are summarized below:
RISA Member Results:
Hot Rolled Members:
Columns: W12x40
Beams at all Lines: W21x44
Jack beams at Lines C and D: W21x101
Drage beams at Braced Lines: W10x19
Rod bracing at roof level and Lines A, C, D and F: 3/4" diameter
Materials: W sections are A572 Gr 50, rod bracing is A572 Gr 50.
Light Gauge Members:
Majority of purlins: 800S350-54
Purlins at perimeter: 800S350-97
Purlins in northwest and northeast corners btwn Lines 2 and 3: 800S350-68
Blocking at purlin midspan: 600S200-54
Page 1
2677 N Main St -
101110159-60 &
20175958-5902/07/23
