Service-level seismic loads are obtained by applying a 0.7 factor to the
design level seismic loads.

2.6.2 BELOW-GRADE AND RETAINING WALLS
Per the geotechnical report, it is recommended to design the basement wall the more critical of two
conditions.
1) At-rest pressure using an equivalent fluid weight of 60 pcf (triangular distribution);
2) Active pressure using an equivalent fluid weight of 40 pcf (triangular distribution) plus a seismic
increment of 15pcf (triangular distribution).
When traffic loads are expected within 10 feet of the walls, an additional design load of 100 psf
should be applied to the upper 10 feet of the wall.

2.6.3 GROUNDWATER
Per the geotechnical report, a groundwater elevation no closer than 40 feet below ground surface
was historically reported by CGS. However, no ground water was only encountered at a depth of
76.5 feet b.g.s. during Leighton’s initial test boring investigation.

2.6.4 SETTLEMENT
Per the geotechnical report, the static settlement of the proposed foundation supported on mat
foundations are anticipated to settle 2 inch or less. Differential settlement is expected to be about
1 inch over a 30-foot horizontal distance.
