3rd & Broadway, Santa Ana, CA
Volume 1 - Basis of Design June 17, 2024 | Project # S21043.00
pg. 38
2.7.1 FLOOR FINISH
Floor flatness and levelness are specified using industry “F” numbers. F f indicates the degree of
floor flatness, a measure of a floor’s local surface bumpiness that is controlled mainly by the type
and degree of finishing used. Fl indicates the degree of floor levelness, a measure of a floor’s
conformance to the specified design elevations, which is controlled mainly by the type and amount
of forming and strike off used.
It is recommended that a standard Ff number of 25 be specified. This degree of flatness is
consistent with industry practice for floor systems supporting the program areas contained within
the project.

2.7.2 CLADDING SYSTEM
The joints at each level of the curtain wall shall be able to accommodate the following building
movements (after installation is complete):
• Up or down: 3/4 inch
• Horizontal story drift: 2% of story height
An allowance shall be made in the curtain wall connection to allow for installation tolerances. The
final connection shall be reviewed by the Structural Engineer of Record for general conformance
with the anticipated building movements.
