3rd & Broadway, Santa Ana, CA
Volume 2 - Structural Calculations June 17, 2024 | Project # S21043.00
pg. 6
4.1 INTRODUCTION
As previously shown in section 2.6.3, two separate ETABS models are created for the Residential
building and Hotel building. For both models, the superstructure of each building and the two-story
podium are included.

The design of the structural gravity and lateral force-resisting systems (LFRS) begins with an elastic
analysis of the structure under gravity and Design Basis Earthquake (DBE) loading.

The elastic analysis and design for the code-specified gravity, wind, and earthquake forces follows the
2019 California Building Code.
The main objectives for the structural analysis are:
• To verify that the structural members meet all strength and serviceability acceptance criteria .

• To develop the gravity load resisting system including the floor framing, column sizes, and
foundation system.

• To develop the lateral load resisting system including the structural core walls, coupling beams,
diaphragms, and the foundation system.
• To verify the overall tower drift is within acceptance criteria.

• For the purpose of the foundation permit calculations to establish loading on the foundations.
