<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />3rd & Broadway, Santa Ana, CA <br />Volume 2 - Structural Calculations June 17, 2024 | Project # S21043.00 <br /> pg. 64 <br />4.6.2 HOTEL BUILDING <br />Base Shear for Hotel building Story Drift Check <br />The story drifts are checked for the unscaled modal base shear, Vt, per Section 12.9.1.4 of ASCE 7-16. <br />So the building drifts are checked using a response spectrum base shear of Vt scaled to gravity and <br />divided by R. <br /> <br />Story Drift Ratios for Hotel Building <br />The response spectrum base shear are applied to the structure through response spectrum cases for <br />earthquake along X and Y directions. Since building has Torsion Irregularity of Type 1a, the center of <br />mass displacements cannot be used for calculation of Story drifts per section 12.8.6. Instead, drifts must <br />be calculated at the location of maximum drift at any point on the floor plate. The following node was <br />selected for calculating story drifts as the point sees the greatest inter-story drift. <br />The story drift ratios are then calculated for these nodes at each story. The elastic drift values are then <br />magnified by Cd / Ie = 5.0 as specified in ASCE 7-16 section 12.9.1.2 to reach the anticipated inelastic drift <br />values.
