Do not install flush mounting boxes back-to-back in walls; provide minimum 6-inch separation. <br />Provide minimum 24 inches separation in acoustic rated walls and fire-rated walls. <br />I. Secure flush mounting box to interior wall and partition studs. Accurately position to allow for <br />surface finish thickness. Outlet boxes on metal studs shall be attached to metal hangers, tack <br />welded or bolted to studs; on wood studs’ attachment shall be with wood screws, nails are not <br />acceptable. <br />J. Use stamped steel bridges to fasten flush mounting outlet box between studs. <br />K. Install flush mounting box without damaging wall insulation or reducing its effectiveness. <br />L. Use adjustable steel channel fasteners for hung ceiling outlet box. <br />M. Do not fasten boxes to ceiling support wires. <br />N. Support boxes independently of conduit, except cast box that is connected to two rigid metal <br />conduits both supported within 12 inches of box. <br />O. Use gang box where more than one device is mounted together. Do not use sectional box. <br />P. Use gang box with plaster ring for single device outlets. <br />Q. Use cast outlet box in exterior locations exposed to the weather and wet locations. <br />R. Large Pull Boxes: Boxes larger than 100 cubic inches in volume or 12 inches in any <br />dimension. <br />1. Interior Dry Locations: Use hinged enclosure under provisions of Section 260160. <br />2. Other Locations: Use surface-mounted cast metal box. <br />S. Open knockouts in outlet boxes only where required for inserting conduit. <br />T. All boxes and panels/cabinets shall be covered with cardboard and duct tape to keep plaster and <br />dirt from entering box or panels. All boxes shall be vacuum cleaned prior to pulling wires. <br />U. All pull and junction boxes shall be clearly and permanently marked indicating the panel and <br />circuit numbers of conductors within the box. <br />V. Coordinate with architectural drawings for tackable wall covers and provide special extension <br />rings for flush finish fit to comply with CEC 370.20. <br />3.2 INTERFACE WITH OTHER PRODUCTS <br />A. Coordinate mounting heights and locations of outlets mounted above counters, benches and <br />backsplashes. The Contractor shall be responsible for cut-outs in tile or counter splashes where <br />outlet boxes are to be installed. <br />B. Position outlet boxes to locate luminaires as shown on reflected ceiling plan.
