White: Steam Systems <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.1 PREPARATION <br />A. Protect structures, utilities, sidewalks, pavements, and other facilities from damage caused by <br />settlement, lateral movement, undermining, washout, and other hazards created by earth moving <br />operations. <br />B. Provide erosion control measures to prevent erosion or displacement of soils and discharge of <br />soil-bearing water runoff or airborne dust to adjacent properties and walkways. <br />C. Tree protection is specified in the Section 311000 "Site Clearing". Refer to landscape <br />architectural plans for instructions. <br />D. Prepare subgrade and place base materials in accordance with sections 301-1.2 and 301-2, <br />respectively, of the Reference Specification. <br />3.2 DEWATERING <br />A. Prevent surface water and ground water from entering excavations, from ponding on prepared <br />subgrades, and from flooding Project site and surrounding area. <br />B. Dewatering shall be done in accordance with NPDES waste discharge requirements. Contractor <br />shall obtain all necessary Dewatering permits from state and local jurisdictions. <br />C. Protect subgrades from softening, undermining, washout, and damage by rain or water <br />accumulation. <br />1. Reroute surface water runoff away from excavated areas. Do not allow water to <br />accumulate in excavations. Do not use excavated trenches as temporary drainage ditches. <br />3.3 EXPLOSIVES <br />A. Explosives: Do not use explosives. <br />3.4 EXCAVATION, GENERAL <br />A. General: Excavation shall be to the contours, elevations and dimensions indicated. Keep <br />excavations free from water and debris while construction is in progress. Notify the Owner
