The design was verified using
the 2018 International Building Code (2018 IBC), 2019 California Building Code (2019 CBC), 2014
American Concrete Institute 318 (ACI 318-14), and the 2016 American Society of Civil Engineers 7
(ASCE 7-16). In accordance with the strength design method, load factors of 1.2 and 1.6 were
applied to the dead load and live load provided by Spectrum Aquatics. The base plate and lift
components were not a part of our design scope.

The lift was analyzed under a live load of 350 lb in addition to the lift’s weight of 109 lb. The
anchorage solution utilizes a 6” long 2.375” diameter post embedded into the concrete. For post
installed anchorage, it is recommended that either ‘Hilti’ HY-200 or ‘Simpson’ SET-XP, or an
approved alternative adhesive be used to set post installed elements. Plan view and section view
details are provided for additional information.

The lift should be placed on a 12 inches deep reinforced concrete pad. The surrounding grade
should be excavated to allow for the pad to be poured flush with the surrounding slab. It is
recommended that the foundation pad for the lift be a minimum of 2’-6” long and 2’-6” wide. It is
acceptable to have the perimeter of the pad slope at a ratio of 1:1 to assist in the concrete pour. The
pad should be reinforced with a mat of 4-#4 reinforcing bars each way top and bottom. See the
attached details. It is recommended that these bars be developed into the adjacent slab a minimum
of 24 inches on all sides where sufficient material exists. Where existing slab occurs, this should be
done by drilling and epoxying the reinforcement in the pad into the existing slab. The use of Hilti HY-
200, Simpson SET-XP, or an alternative adhesive should be used with a minimum embedment of 5
inches.

DCI Engineers cannot ensure the adequacy of the surrounding pool deck due to unknown factors
including the deck’s concrete compressive strength, thickness, and reinforcing. It is recommended
that in locations where existing slab occurs, a 2’-7” square be saw cut, removed, and replaced with
the concrete pad specified.

DESIGN CRITERIA
MOTION TREK 350 – BASE DESIGN

GENERAL
DESIGN CODES 2019 California Building Code (CBC)
2018 International Building Code (IBC)
2014 American Concrete Institute (ACI)
2016 American Society of Civil Engineers 7 (ASCE)

DEAD LOAD
WEIGHT OF LIFT 109 lbs
LOAD FACTOR 1.2

LIVE LOAD
WEIGHT OF USER 350 lbs
LOAD FACTOR 1.6

SEISMIC LOADS
SITE CLASS D
SDS 1.7 Maximum
IMPORTANCE FACTOR 1.0
SEISMIC USE GROUP 1

MATERIALS
STEEL MEMBERS UNO 304 S.S.
ANCHOR BOLTS ASTM A325 or Better
CONCRETE 28 DAY f’c 3000 psi
REINFORCING BAR, Fy ASTM A615 Grade 60
WELD METAL F7X-EXXX or E70XX
PREAPPROVED EPOXY ‘Simpson’ Set-XP or ‘Hilti’ HY-200

SOIL (ASSUMED)
ALLOWABLE BRG PRESSURE 1500 psf
ALLOWABLE LATERAL BRG PRESSURE 100 psf

ADA COMPLIANT POOL Lifts SPECTRUMMotion Trek 350
The Motion Trek 350 is an ADA compliant battery powered lift that is self operable
from the deck and water with a robust operating system.
