EXPEDITED PERIVTIT PROCESS FOR PV SYSTEMS
MICRO-INVERTER
The Solar America Board for Codes and Srandards (Solar ABCS) Expedited Permir Pro-
cess provides a means to differentiate systems that can be permitted quickly and easily
due to their similarity with rhe majority of small-scale PV systems. Those systems with
unique characteristics may be handled with small addirions ro this Expedited Permit
Process or may require much more information, depending on the uniqueness of the
installation.
The following pages conuin forms for the Micro-lnverter to use with the Expedited Per-
mil Process. The Standard String, AC Module, and Supply-Side Connection forms
are also available as interactive PDF files at www.solarabcs.orglpermitting. In jurisdic-
tions that have adopted the Expedired Permir Process for PV Sysrems. rhese forms can
be filled out electronically and submitted in either prinred form and via email. An elec-
tronic format is used so that rhe supplied information is shndardized and legible for the
local jurisdiction.

EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR SMALL-SCALE PV SYSTEMS
MICRo-INVERTER
The information in this guideline is intended to help local Jurisdictions and conrracrors idenrify when PV sysrem installarions
are simple. needing only a basic review, and when an insallation is more complex. lr js likely rhar 50 % -75 % of all residenrial
systems will comply with these simple criteria. For proJec6 that fail to meer (he simple criteria. resolution steps have been
suggesred to provide as a path to permir approval.
Requireil Infonnation for Peflnit:
I Sire plan showing location of major components on the properfy. This drawing need nor be exacdy to scale, but ir
should represent relatrve locarion of componenrs at sire (see supplied example sire plan). Pv arrays on dwellings
with a 3'perimeter space at ridge and sides may not need separate hre service review.
2 Electrical diagram showing PV array conhguration, wiring sysrem. overcurrent protecrion, invertet disconnecrs.
required signs, and ac connection ro building (see supplied srandard elecrrical diagram).
3. Speci6catron sheers and insrallation manuals (iF available) for all manufactured components including, bur not
limited to, PV modules, inverter(s), combiner box, disconnects, and mounting system.
Step 1 : Structural Review o[ PV Array Mounting System
ls the array to be mounted on a defrned, permifted roof structurei Eyes f]tto
l.f No due to non-compliant rooJ or a ground mount, submit completed worhsheet Jor the stucture WKS I .
Roof Information:
l. Is the roohng type lighrweight (Yes = composition. lightweighr masonry. metal. erc. .)Yes
Il No, submit completed worhsheet for roof stucture WKSI (No = heayy masonry, slate, etc.. .)
2 Does the roof have a srngle roof coveringr EIyes Eno
If No, submit completed worhsheet Jor roof sffucture wNSl .
f. Provrde method and type of weatherproofing roof penetrations (e.g. flashing. caulk)Flashing
M ounting S! sten Infonnation :
I Is the mounting structure an en ineered product designed to mount PV modules wirh no more than an I8" gap
beneath the module frames?Yes ! no
lf No, provide detaik ol structurol atta.chment certiled by a destgn prcfessional.
2 For manufacrured mounling systems, hll out informarion on the mounting sysrem below
a. Mounring Sys tem Manufacrurer SWH roducr Name and 1r4o6"1gSolar Mount
b. Total Weight of PV Modules and Rails 1288 Ibs
c. Total Number of Athchmenr Points 48
d. weighr per Arrachmenr Pornr (b+c) 2684 lbs (iF grearer than 45 lbs, seewKSl)
e. Maximum Spacing Between Attachment Points on a Rail & rnches (see product manual for
maximum spacing allowed based on maximum design wind speed)
f. Total Surface Area of PV Modules (square feer)494.'18 fr,
g. Distributed Weight of PV Module on Roof (b:' 0 2.61 lbs/ft'?
Il dktributed weight ol the Pv system is geater than 5 lbstP, see WKSI .
Step 2: Electrical Review o[ PV System (Calculations for Electrical Diagram)
In order for a PV system to be considered for an expedited permit pmcess, the following must apply:
I PV modules, utility-interactive inverters, and combiner boxes are identihed for use in PV systems.
2. The PV array is composed of 4 series strings or less per inverter.
3 The total inverter capacity has a continuous ac power output 13,440 watrs or less
4. The ac inrerconnection poinr is on lhe load side of service disconnecting means (690.64(8)).
5. one of the standard elecrrical diagrams (E L I , E l I a, E L I b, or E l I c) can be used to accurately represent the Pv
system. Interacrive PDF diagrams are available at wwwsolarabcs.org/permifting.
Fill out the standard. electrical diagram completely. A guide to the electrical d.iagram is provid.ed to help the applicant
understand each blank to ill in. If the electrical system is more comptex than the standard electrical diagram can elJectively
communicate, provide an alternative diagram vith aryropriate detaiL
