EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR SMALL.SCALE PV SYSTEMS
MICRO-INVERTER
The information in this guideline is intended to help local jurisdictions and contractors identify when PV sysrem installarions
are simple. needing only a basic review and when an installation is more complex. lt is likely thar 50% -75% ol all residenrial
systems will comply with these simple criteria. For projects that fail to meet the simple criteria, resolurion steps have been
suggested to provide as a path to permit approval.
Requircd lnlormation for Pennit:
l. Site plan showing location of major components on the propeny. This drawing need nor be exactly to scale. bur it
should represent relative locarion ol components a( sire (see supplied example sire plan). PV arrays on dwellings
with a 3'perimeter space at ridge and sides may not need separate fire service review
2. Electrical diagram showing PV array configuration. wiring syslem, overcurrent prorectron, rnverret disconnecrs.
required signs. and ac connection to building (see supplied standard electrical diagram).
3. Speciication sheets and installation manuals (if available) for all manufactured components including, but not
limited to. PV modules, invener(s), combiner box, disconnects, and mounting system.

Step 2: Electrical Review of PV System (Calculations for Electrical Diagram)
ln order for a PV system to be considered for an expedited permit process, the following must apply:
l. PV modules, utility-interactive inverters, and combiner boxes are identified for use in PV systems.
2. The PV array is composed of 4 series strings or less per inverter
l. The total inverter capaciry has a continuous ac power outpur 1J.440 Warrs or less
4 The ac interconnection point is on rhe load side of service disconnecting means (690.64(B)).
5. One of the sandard eleclrical diagrams (E1.1, El.la, El.lb, or El.lc) can be used to accurately represent rhe PV
system. lnteractive PDF diagrams are available ar www.solarabcs.org/permirting.
Fill out the stand,ard electrical diagram completely. A g:uide to the electrical diag:rqm is provided to help the applicant
understdnd edch bla,nh to f.ll in. U the electrical systern is more complex th,n the stdnddrd electrical diagram can elJectively
communicate, provide an o.lteflMtive diagram vith appropriate detail.
