STANDARD STRING SYSTEM
The informaflon in this gurdeline is intended to help local Junsdict rons and contractors identify when PV system installations
are simple, needing only a basrc review and when an installa(ion is more complex lt rs Iikely that 50%-75% of all residential
systems wrll comply with these simple criteria. For projects that fail to meet the simple cnterra. resolu(ion steps have been
suggested to provide as a path to permit approval.
Required InJormation for Permit:
1. Srte plan showing location of ma.1or components on the property. Thrs drawing need not be exactly to scale, but it
should represent rela(rve locataon of components at site (see supplied example site plan). PV arrays on dwellings
wrth a 3 perimeter space a( ridge and srdes may not need separate nre service review.
2 Electrical diagram showing PV array conhguration. wiring system. overcurrent protecrion, inverter. disconnects,
required signs, and ac connecrion to building (see supplied standard electrical diagram).
f Specrhcation sheets and installation manuals (if available) for all manufactured components including, but not
limited ro, PV modules. inverrer(s). combiner box, disconnects, and mounting system.

Step 2; Electrical Review o[ PV System (Calculations for Electrical Diagram)
In order for a PV system to be considered for an expedited permit process, the following must apply:
l. PV modules, utility-interactive inverters. and combiner boxes are identifred For use in PV systems
2 The PV array is composed of 4 series srrings or less per inverter.
f. The total inverter capacrty has a continuous ac power output 13.440 wa(ts or less
4. The ac interconnecrion point is on the load side ol service disconnecting means (690.64(8)).
5 One ofthe standard electrical diagrams(El.l,El.la,El.lb,orEl.lc) can be used to accurately represen( the PV
system. lnteractive PDF diagrams are available at wwwsolarabcs.org/perrrrittinq.
