EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FoR PV SYSTEMS
MICRO- INVERTER
The Solar America Board for Codes and Srandards (Solar ABCS) Expedited Permit Pro-
cess provides a means to differentiare systems that can be permitred quickly and easily
due to their similariry with the majority of small-scale PV systems. Those systems wirh
unique characteristics may be handled with small additions to this Expedited Permit
Process or may require much more information, depending on the uniqueness o[ Ihe
installation.
The following pages contain forms for the Micro-lnverter to use with the Expedited Per-
mit Process. The Srandard String, AC Module, and Supply-Side Connection forms
are also available as interactive PDF files ar www.solarabcs.org/permitting ln jurisdic-
rions thar have adopted the Expedired Permit Process for PV Systems. these forms can
be filled our electronically and submirred in either printed form and via email. An elec-
rronic formar is used so that the supplied information is standardized and legible for rhe
local jurisdiction.

EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR SMALL-SCALE PV SYSTEMS
MICRO-INVERTER
The in[ormation in this guideline is intended to help local jurisdictions and conrractors identify when PV sysrem insrallarions
are simple, needing only a basic review and when an installation is more complex. It is likely thar 50%-75% of all residential
systems will comply with these simple criteria. For projecrs that fail to meet the simple criteria. resolution steps have been
suggested to provide as a parh to permit approval.
Required Information Jor Perfiit:
l. Site plan showing location of major components on the property. This drawing need not be exactly to scale, but it
should represent relative location of components at site (see supplied example site plan). PV arrays on dwellings
with a 3'perimeter space at ridge and sides may not need separate hre service review.
2. Electrical diagram showing PV array conngurarion, wiring system, overcurrent protection, inverter, disconnecrs,
required signs, and ac connection to building (see supplied standard elecrrical diagram).
3. Specincation sheets and installation manuals (if available) for all manufactured components including. bur not
limited to. PV modules. inverter(s), combiner box, disconnects. and mounting system.
Step 1 : Structural Review of PV Array Mounting System
Is the array to be mounted on a defined, permitted roof structure?ves flruo
U No due to non-compliant roof or a ground mount. submit completed worksheet Jor the structure WKSI
Roof lnJormation:
L ls the roohng type lightweight (Yes = composition. lighrweighr masonry, meral, erc...)COMPOSITION SHINGLE. CLASS A
IJ No, submit completed worksheet for roof structure WKS.I (No = heavy masonry, slate, etc...)
2 Does the roof have a single roof covering?Yes E I,,to
Il No, submit completed worksheet lor roof structure WKSI

beneath the module frames?ves E t,to
U No. provide details ol structural attachmmt certiled by a design professional.
2. For manufactured mounting systems, fill out information on the mounting system below
a. Mounrins svsrem Manulacrurer UNIRAC P roduct Name and Model# sosRMouNT RAIL
b. Toral Weight of PV Modules and Rails 899.55 bs
c. Total Number oI Attachment Points 30
d. Weighr per Arrachment Poinr (b+c)2999 lbs (if grearer rhan 45 lbs, see WKSI)
e Maximum Spacing Between Attachment Points on a Ra
maximum spacing allowed based on maximum design
Total Surface Area of PV Modules (square feet)264.30
il 48 inches (see product manual for
wind speed)
fr':t.
e Distributed Weight of PV Module on Roof (b + l)3.40 lbs/f[r
IJ tlistributed weight ol the PV system is gredtet than 5 lbslff , see WKSI .
Step 2: Electrical Review o[ PV System (Calculations for Electrical Diagram)
In order for a PV system to be considered for an expedited permit process, the following must apply:
1. PV modules, utility-interactive inveners, and combiner boxes are identi6ed for use in PV systems.
2. The PV array is composed o[ 4 series strings or less per inverter.
3. The total inverrer capacity has a continuous ac power outpur 13,440 Watts or less
4. The ac interconneclion point is on the load side of service disconnecting means (690.64(8)).
5. One of the standard electrical diagrams(81.1, El.la, El.lb, orEl.lc) can be used to accurately represenr rhe PV
system. Interactive PDF diagrams are available at www.solarabcs.orgi permitting.
Fill out the standard electical diagrum completely. A gLtide to the electical diagram is provid.ed to help the applicant
understand each blank to jll in. If the electrical system is more complex than the standard electrical diagram can euectively
communicate. provide an alternative diagram with appropriate detail

Alarm Affidavit
This document moy be lound ot.http.//www. santa-ana.orqlpba/
(Please use a black or blue ink ball-point pen)
State of California requires that smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms are installed in residential
bu ildings.
California Residential Code (CRC) Section R314.1and R315.2 states in part that existing dwellings be
"retrofitted with smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. CRC Section R314.3 and R314.3.3 define
the required locations.
Aeoth boxes below must be checked:
p. Carbon monoxide alarms: Are installed outside of each sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of
bedrooms and also on each level of the dwelling. Alarms are required in bedrooms with gas-fired
appliances (i.e. hot water heater, cooktop, furnace) or a fireplace.
J
lrdsmoke alarms: Are installed in each room used for sleeping, in each hallway outside of a sleeping
room, and on each level of the dwelling.
Retrofitted detectors may be battery-operated for buildings where no interior alterations are
performed. Combination Smoke/CO alarms must comply with all applicable standards and be approved
by the State Fire Marshall (SFM). Battery life must be 10 years.
I hereby certify that I am the contractor or the property owner of the above project. I further certify
that smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms have been installed in compliance with the governing
Codes and have been tested to be functional. l, also, hereby certify that lwill retest the alarms per the
manufacturer's instructions.
