EXPEDITED PERMIT PRoCESS ToR PV SYSTEMS
STANDARD STRING SYSTEM
The Solar America Board fo. Codes and Standards (Solar ABCS) Expedited Permit Pro-
cess provides a means !o differentiate sysrems rhar can be permirted quicry and easily
due to their similarity with rhe maJorlry of small-scale Pv s)6tems. Those systems with
unique characterisdcs may be handled with small additions to thls Expedired Fermit
Process or may require much more lnformation, depending on the uniqueness of the
installation.
The following paSes contain forms for the SEndard Sring System to use wirh the Expe-
dited Permit Process. The Micro-lnvertef, AC Module, and Supply-Side Connedion forms
are also available as interactive PDF files ar www.solarabcs.org/permitdng. In jurisdlc-
tions that have adopted the Expedited Permir Process for PV S),srems, these forms can
be filled out electronically and submifted ln either printed form and vla email. An elec-
tronic forma[ is used so that rhe supplied informarion is standardized and legible for the
local Jurisdiaion.

EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR PV SYSTEMS
EXPEDITED PERMIT PRoCESS ,o* ,"o...,.0Til,,ii", .. U-
STANDARD STRING SYSTEM
The information in this guideline is intended ro help local jurisdictions and conrracbrs identify when Pv sysrem ins[alladons
are simPle, needing only a basic review and when an installarion is more complex. lr is likely rhar 50%-75 % of all residenrial
systems will comply wirh these slmple ffiteria. For projects thar fail ro meet the simple ffiteria, resolution sreps have been
suggested lo provide as a pat}l to permit appmval.
Regubed Informatlott for Permit:
I Site plan showing locarion of major components on the propeny. This drawing need nor be exactly to scale, bur it
should represent relative location of componen[s ar sire (see supplied example site plan). PV arrays on dwellings
with a 3' perimerer space ar ridge and sides may not need separare fire service review.
2. Electrical diagram showing Pv array configuration, wiring system, overcurrenr protection, invefter, disconnecrc.
required signs, and ac connecrion ro building (see supplied sEndard elecrrical diagram).
3. sPecihcation sheers and installation manuals (if available) for all manufacrured components including, but nor
limited to, PV modules, inverter(s), combiner box, disconnects, and mounring sysrem.

California Residential Code (CRC) Section R314.1and R315.2 states in part that existing dwellings be
"retrofitted with smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. CRC Section R314.3 and R314.3.3 define
the req uired locations.
A ao,!, boxes below must be checked:
E Carbon monoxide alarms: Are installed outside of each sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of
bedrooms and also on each level of the dwelling. Alarms are required in bedrooms with gas-fired
appliances (i.e. hot water heater, cooktop, furnace) or a fireplace.
E Smoke alarms: Are installed in each room used for sleeping, in each hallway outside of a sleeping
room, and on each level of the dwelling.
Retrofitted detectors may be battery-operated for buildings where no interior alterations are
performed. Combination Smoke/CO alarms must comply with all applicable standards and be approved
by the State Fire Marshall (SFM). Battery life must be 10 years.
