7.MID CLAMPS REQUIRE .37 INCH (3/8") SPACE BETWEEN PV MODULES. RAILS SHALL EXTEND 2" BEYOND ARRAY. SOLAR CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROPER RAIL LENGTH
AND INSTALLATION.
8.THE MAXIMUM HEIGHT OF A SOLAR COLLECTOR SHALL BE NO MORE THAN TWO FEET, MEASURED PERPENDICULAR TO THE ROOF SURFACE, AND MY NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM
OVERALL BUILDING HEIGHT.
9.ALL SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEM APPURTENANCES SHALL BE SCREENED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT POSSIBLE WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE SOLAR
COLLECTORS, AND SHALL BE OF A COLOR SIMILAR TO THE COLOR OF THE SURFACE UPON WITH THEY ARE MOUNTED.

Micro-Inverter
The Solar America Board for Codes and Standards (Solar ABCs) Expedited Permit Pro-
cess provides a means to differentiate systems that can be permitted quickly and easily
due to their similarity with the majority of small-scale PV systems. Those systems with
unique characteristics may be handled with small additions to this Expedited Permit
Process or may require much more information, depending on the uniqueness of the
installation.
The following pages contain forms for the Micro-Inverter to use with the Expedited Per-
mit Process. The Standard String, AC Module, and Supply-Side Connection forms
are also available as interactive PDF files at www.solarabcs.org/permitting. In jurisdic-
tions that have adopted the Expedited Permit Process for PV Systems, these forms can
be filled out electronically and submitted in either printed form and via email. An elec-
tronic format is used so that the supplied information is standardized and legible for the
local jurisdiction.

Expedited Permit Process for Small-Scale PV Systems
Micro-Inverter
The information in this guideline is intended to help local jurisdictions and contractors identify when PV system installations
are simple, needing only a basic review, and when an installation is more complex. It is likely that 50%-75% of all residential
systems will comply with these simple criteria. For projects that fail to meet the simple criteria, resolution steps have been
suggested to provide as a path to permit approval.
Required Information for Permit:
1. Site plan showing location of major components on the property. This drawing need not be exactly to scale, but it
should represent relative location of components at site (see supplied example site plan). PV arrays on dwellings
with a 3’ perimeter space at ridge and sides may not need separate fire service review.
2. Electrical diagram showing PV array configuration, wiring system, overcurrent protection, inverter, disconnects,
required signs, and ac connection to building (see supplied standard electrical diagram).
3. Specification sheets and installation manuals (if available) for all manufactured components including, but not
limited to, PV modules, inverter(s), combiner box, disconnects, and mounting system.
Step 1: Structural Review of PV Array Mounting System
Is the array to be mounted on a defined, permitted roof structure? l Yes l No
If No due to non-compliant roof or a ground mount, submit completed worksheet for the structure WKS1.
Roof Information:
1. Is the roofing type lightweight (Yes = composition, lightweight masonry, metal, etc…)__________________________

Step 2: Electrical Review of PV System (Calculations for Electrical Diagram)
In order for a PV system to be considered for an expedited permit process, the following must apply:
1. PV modules, utility-interactive inverters, and combiner boxes are identified for use in PV systems.
2. The PV array is composed of 4 series strings or less per inverter.
3. The total inverter capacity has a continuous ac power output 13,440 Watts or less
4. The ac interconnection point is on the load side of service disconnecting means (690.64(B)).
5. One of the standard electrical diagrams (E1.1, E1.1a, E1.1b, or E1.1c) can be used to accurately represent the PV
system. Interactive PDF diagrams are available at www.solarabcs.org/permitting.
Fill out the standard electrical diagram completely. A guide to the electrical diagram is provided to help the applicant
understand each blank to fill in. If the electrical system is more complex than the standard electrical diagram can effectively
communicate, provide an alternative diagram with appropriate detail.

The purpose of this letter is to provide a review of the existing single family residential
development for the attachment and support of the proposed photovoltaic arrays as outlined in
the drawings prepared by Sunnova for City Ventures. The limitation to our review is to
the overall support and attachment of the photovoltaic array to the roof system designed by
others. The gravity and lateral inpact of the proposed solar system has been accounted for in
the original design for the project by the engineer of record for the development
The project is to be constructed by City Ventures and has been designed by another licensed
engineer per the requirements of the latest edition of the 2022 CBC as amended by the local jurisdiction.
Our design includes the assumption that the structure has been designed by a California Licensed
engineer and that the structure has been constructed in accordance with that design.
The proposed roof structures have been designed for a top chord design dead load of
10 psf, which includes 2.5 psf PV allowance.
The project has been designed for a wind exposure C, with an basic wind speed of 100 MPH.
The roof is to be constructed of composition shingles.
The photovoltaic array will mount flush to the roof planes with a maximum of 8" space between
the bottom of the panels and the finish roofing. The proposed photovoltaic array consists of
8 modules on each roof. Roof pitches may vary between 3:12 & 5:12.
Panels shall be setback a minimum of 36" from ridge lines and 19" from valleys for all orientations.
The photovoltaic array rails shall run perpendicular to the roof slope. The photovoltaic array
mounts shall be Unirac, Solar Mount, L-foot or equivalent and shall be installed at a spacing
not more than 48” o.c. Each mount shall connected to the roof truss top chord with a minimum
of (1) 5/16” diameter stainless steel lag screw with a minimum of 2-1/2” penetration into the top
chord of the truss. Vertically adjacent mounts shall not bear on the same roof trusses, but
should be staggered over every other truss wherever possible. Mounts should be within 12” of
the ends of all rails.

Photovoltaic system: Santa Ana 7 Multi Residential Development for City Ventures
Every truss that supports a photovoltaic array mount should be connected to the structural
bearing walls with a Simpson H2.5A hurricane tie or other equivalent fastener capable of
resisting uplift forces due to the array or as noted in the truss engineering reports, whichever is
greater. If photovoltaic panel mounts fasten to flat 2x purlins that bear on truss top chord (in
hip roof geometries, for example), those purlins shall be connected to all available truss top
chords in an appropriate manner to resist uplift forces. All panel & rail connections are to be
installed in accordance with the manufacturer recommendations.
