Elvestad, PE swyssling@wysslingconsulting.com November 3, 2023 Revised January 4, 2024 Flagship Holdings, LLC 15911 Canterbury Court Bakersfield, CA 93314 Re: Engineering Services Mangosing Residence 118 W Stevens Avenue, Santa Ana CA 9.480 kW System To Whom It May Concern: We have received information regarding solar panel installation on the roof of the above referenced structure. Our evaluation of the structure is to verify the existing capacity of the roof system and its ability to support the additional loads imposed by the proposed solar system. A. Site Assessment Information 1. Site visit documentation identifying attic information including size and spacing of framing for the existing roof structure. 2. Design drawings of the proposed system including a site plan, roof plan and connection details for the solar panels. This information will be utilized for approval and construction of the proposed system. B. Description of Structure: Roof Framing: Assumed prefabricated wood trusses with all truss members constructed of 2 x 4 dimensional lumber at 24” on center. Roof Material: Tile Roofing Roof Slope: 18.43 degrees Attic Access: Inaccessible Foundation: Permanent C. Loading Criteria Used • Dead Load o Existing Roofing and framing = 13 psf o New Solar Panels and Racking = 3 psf o TOTAL = 16 PSF • Dead Load o Existing Roofing and framing = 7 psf o New Solar Panels and Racking = 3 psf o TOTAL = 10 psf • Live Load = 20 psf (reducible) – 0 psf at locations of solar panels • Ground Snow Load = 0 psf • Wind Load based on ASCE 7-16 o Ultimate Wind Speed = 95 mph (based on Risk Category II) o Exposure Category C Analysis performed of the existing roof structure utilizing the above loading criteria is in accordance with the 2022 California Building Code, including provisions allowing existing structures to not require strengthening if the new loads do not exceed existing design loads by 105% for gravity elements and 110% for seismic elements. This analysis indicates that the existing framing will support the additional panel loading without damage, if installed correctly. 118 W Stevens Ave - 201817302/22/2024 Page 2 of 2 D. Solar Panel Anchorage 1. The solar panels shall be mounted in accordance with the most recent Unirac installation manual. If during solar panel installation, the roof framing members appear unstable or deflect non -uniformly, our office should be notified before proceeding with the in stallation. 2. The maximum allowable withdrawal force for a #14 lag screw is 194 lbs per inch of penetration as identified in the National Design Standards (NDS) of timber construction specifications. Based on a minimum penetration depth of 2½”, the allowable capacity per connection is greater than the design withdrawal force (demand). Considering the variable factors for the existing roof framing and installation tolerances, the connection using two #14 diameter lag screw with a minimum of 2½” embedment will be adequate and will include a sufficient factor of safety. 3. Considering the wind speed, roof slopes, size and spacing of framing members, and condition of the roof, the panel supports shall be placed no greater than 48” on center. Based on the above evaluation, this office certifies that with the racking and mounting specified, the existing roof system will adequately support the additional loading imposed by the solar system. This evaluation is in conformance with the 2022 California Building Code, current industry standards, and is based on information supplied to us at the time of this report. The electrical contractor shall verify the exact locations of service points and service sizes with the serving utility company and comply with all utility companies requirements. Drawings are diagrammatic only, routing of raceways shall be option of the contractor unless otherwise noted and shall be coordinated with other trades. If the roof material or the roof structure not adequate for PV installation, call the engineer of record prior to installation. The contractor is responsible to verify that the roof is capable of withstanding the extra weight. 8. If the distances for cable runs are different than shown, the contractor shall notify the electrical engineer to validate the wire size. Final drawings will be red-lined and updated as appropriate. 9. Whenever a discrepancy in quality of equipment arises on the drawing or specifications, the contractor shall be responsible for providing and installing all materials and services required by the strictest conditions noted on the drawings or in the specifications to ensure complete compliance and longevity of the operable system required by the engineer of record. 10. All work shall comply with the State of California, and Santa Ana City applicable codes and regulations. 11. All electrical equipment shall be UL listed or listed by a city of Santa Ana recognized electrical laboratory or approved by the department. PHOTOVOLTAIC NOTES: 1. Rooftop mounted photovoltaic panels and modules shall be tested ,listed and identified by recognized testing laboratory. 2. Solar system shall not cover any plumbing or mechanical vents 3. Modules and support structures shall be grounded unless racking has integrated ground. 4. Removal of an interactive inverter or other equipment shall not disconnect the bonding connection between the grounding electrode conductor and the photovoltaic source and/or output circuit grounded conductors. 5. All PV modules and associated equipment and wiring shall be protected from physical damage. 6. Live parts of PV source circuits and PV output circuits over 150v to ground shall not be accessible to other than qualified persons while energized. 7. Inverter is equipped with integrated DC disconnect, thus providing ground fault protection 8. All conductors shall be copper and 75 deg rated 9. A single conductor shall be permitted to be used to perform the multiple functions of dc grounding, AC grounding and bonding between AC and DC systems. 10. Non-current carrying metal parts of equipment shall be effectively bonded together. Bond both ends of raceways. These drawings are protected by copyright under US alaw.
