EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR SMALL-SCALE PV SYSTEMS
STANDARD STRINC SYSTEM
The ihformation in this guideline is intended to help locatjurisdictions and contractors identify when PV system insEllations
are simple, needing only a basic review, and when an installation is more complex. lt is Iikely rhat 50 % -75% of all residenrial
systems will comply with lhese simple crireria. For proJecrs rhat fail to meet the simple criteria, resolurion sreps have been
suggested to provide as a path to permit approval.
Required lt{ormation Jor Pennit:
l. Sire plan showing location of major componenrs on rhe property. This drawing need not be exacdy ro scale. bur ir
should represent relative location of components at site (see supplied example site plan) PV arrays on dwellings
with a 3'perimeter space at ridge and sides may not need separate frre service review.
2. Elecrrical diagram showing [,V array connguration. wiring system, overcurrent protection, inverlet (lisconnects,
required signs. and ac connection to building (see supplied srandard electrical diagram).
l. Specincarion sheets and installation manuals (if available) for all manufactured componenrs including, bur nor
limited to, PV modules, inverter(s), combiner box. disconnects. and mounting system.

Step 9: Electrical Review of PV System (Calculations lor Electrical Diagram)
In order for a PV slrstem to be considered for an expedited permit process, the following must apply:
l. PV modules, utility-interactive inverters, and combiner boxes are idenlifred for use in PV sysrems.
2. The PV array is composed of 4 series srrings or less per inverter.
3. The total inverter capacity has a continuous ac power output 13,440 Watts or less
4. The ac interconnection point is on the load side of service disconnecting means (690.64(B)).
5. One oF the standard electrical diagrams(El.l. El.1a. El.lb,orE1 I c) can be used to accurately represent the PV
system. Inreractive PDF diagrams are available at wwwsolarabcs.org/permitting.
Fill out the standard electrical diagram completely. A guide to the electrical diagram is provided to help the applicant
understand each blank to lll in. I! the electrical system is mote complex thqn the standord electrical diagram can elJectively
communicate, provide an altemative diagram with appropriate detail.
