EXPEDITED PERMIT PRoCESS FoR PV SYSTEMS
STANDARD STRING SYSTEM
The Solar America Board for Codes and Srandards (Solar ABCS) Expedired permir pro-
cess provides a means ro differentiate systems that can be permitted quickly and easily
due to their similariry with rhe majoriry oI small-sc4e PV sysrems. Those sysrems with
unique characteristics may be handled with small additions ro rhis Expedited Permit
Process or may require much more information, depending on the uniqueness of the
installation.
The following pages conEin lorms for rhe SEndard String Sysrem ro use wirh the Expe-
dited Permit Process. The Micro-lnverrer, AC Module, and Supply-Side Connecrion forms
are also available as interacrive PDF Files at www.solarabcs.org/permitting In jurisdic-
tions that have adopted rhe Expedired Permir Process for PV Sysrems, rhese forms can
be filled out electronically and submitted in either printed form and via email. An elec-
tronic format is used so that rhe supplied informarion is srandardized and legible for rhe
local jurisdiction.

EXIEDITTD PIR[1IT IROCESS FOR PV SYSTEMS
EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR SMALL-SCALE PV SYSTEMS
STANDARD STRINC SYSTEM
The information in this guideline is in:ended ro help local jUrisdictions and connactors rdentrfy when PV system insrallarions
are simple, needing only a basic review and when an installation is more complex. lt is :ikely that fi%-75% of all residenrial
systems will comply wiLh these sirnpls criteria. For projects that fail to nleet the simple criterfa. resolution steps have been
suggested to provide as a parh ro permit approval.
Reqdteil InJonnttion fot Pennit:
l. Slte plan showing locarion of major components on the properry. This drawing need not be exacrty to scale, bur it
should represent .elative location of components at sire (see supplied example site plan). PV arrays on dwelllngs
with a 3' perimeter space at ridge and sides may not need separare hre service review.
2. Electrical diagram showlng PV array conhguration, wiring system, overcurrenL protection, inverteC disconnec6,
required signs, and ac connection to building (see supplied standard elecrrical diagram).
3 specihcation sheeB and insrallarion manuals (if available) for all manufactured components including, bur nol

Step 2: Electrical Review o[ PV System (Calculations lor Electrical Diagram)
tn order for a PV system to be considercd for an expedited permit process, the followtng must apply:
1 PV modules. utiliry-interactive inver(ers. and combiner boxes arc identifred for use in PV systems.
2. The Pv array is composed of 4 senes strings or less per inverter
3. The total inverter capacity has a continuous ac powcr oulput :3.440 Watts or less

5. One ofrhesrandard electrical diagrarns (El.l. El.ta, El.lb, orEl.lc) can be used Lo accurately represcnt the PV

Fill out the sta, ndatd electrical diagtam completely. A guide to the electrical diagrum is provided to help the dpplicdnt
understand each blanh to jll in. IJ the electticql system is more complet than the standard electricol diagrum can elJectively
