THE COMPLETED INSTALLED CONDITION OF THE SOLAR ARRAY. THE INSTALLER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE
SAFETY AND CARE OF THE ARRAY DURING ALL PHASES OF INSTALLATION. THEREFORE, THE INSTALLER
MUST MONITOR THE WEATHER FORECAST AND TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS (SEE GENERAL NOTE #10)
TO TEMPORARILY SHORE/BRACE ALL ARRAYS DURING CONSTRUCTION UNTIL INSTALLATION IS COMPLETED
IN CONFORMANCE WITH THIS APPROVED CONSTRUCTION SET AND THE PRODUCT INSTALLATION MANUAL
(SEE GENERAL NOTE #2). THE INSTALLER HAS SOLE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE MEANS, METHODS, AND

ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION GENERAL NOTES
1. ALL WORK SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST EDITION OF THE NEC (NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE), NFPA
(NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION), AND ALL APPLICABLE LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL CODES, LAWS AND
REGULATIONS.
2. ALL WORK SHALL CONFORM TO APPLICABLE STATE AND FEDERAL SAFETY CODES INCLUDING OSHA AND CAL OSHA.
NO "HOT" WORK IS AUTHORIZED. ALL "HOT" WORK SHALL BE APPROVED IN WRITING WITH THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR
AND OWNER.
3. COORDINATE ALL WORK WITH ARCHITECTURAL, MECHANICAL AND STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS, INSTALL ALL WORK TO
CLEAR NEW AND EXISTING ARCHITECTURAL AND STRUCTURAL MEMBERS. NO ITEM SUCH AS A PIPE, DUCT, ETC. SHALL
BE IN CONTACT WITH ANY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE CONDITIONS DURING THE
COURSE OF CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT, INCLUDING SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS AND PROPERTY AND SECURITY
OF THE WORKSITE. THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL APPLY CONTINUOUSLY AND NOT BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING
HOURS.
5. NOTIFY THE PRIME CONTRACTOR OR OWNER IMMEDIATELY AFTER DISCOVERING ANY HAZARDOUS MATERIAL.
6. DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND INDICATE GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF SYSTEMS AND WORK INCLUDED. VERIFY
THE EXACT LOCATIONS AND CONDITIONS OF ALL EQUIPMENT REQUIRING ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS PRIOR TO ANY
WORK. LOCATIONS FOR EQUIPMENT SHALL BE TAKEN FROM THE OTHER SHEETS WHERE THEY OCCUR. EXTEND
WIRING FROM ALL JUNCTION BOXES, CONTROL PANELS, PUMPS, RECEPTACLES, SWITCHES, ETC. AND MAKE ALL FINAL
CONNECTIONS TO THE EQUIPMENT AS REQUIRED.
7. THE INTENT OF THESE DRAWINGS IS FOR A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ANY ERRORS OR UNCERTAINTY SHALL
BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE PRIME CONTRACTOR AND ENGINEER AS SOON AS FOUND.
8. THE COMPLETE ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION SHALL BE TESTED AS A COMPLETE WORKING SYSTEM.
9. RESTORE ALL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM WORK AND LEAVE PREMISES IN CLEAN CONDITION WHEN FINISHED WITH
10. FIRE STOP ALL PENETRATIONS THROUGH FIRE RATED SURFACES.
11. ALL NEW CIRCUIT BREAKERS SHALL BE RATED 10,000 AIC OR HIGHER
12. ALL CONDUITS SHALL BE EMT, INTERMEDIATE METAL CONDUIT, OR RIGID STEEL. MINIMUM SIZE SHALL BE 1/2". ALL
CONDUIT, BOXES, AND ELECTRICAL FITTINGS SHALL BE STEEL.
13. DO NOT USE THE WORKING SPACE WITHIN ANY EXIT SIGN OR ASSOCIATED JUNCTION BOX FOR ANY OTHER CIRCUIT.
14. PROVIDE EXPANSION AND DEFLECTION FITTINGS IN CONDUITS CROSSING BUILDING EXPANSION AND SEISMIC
JOINTS.
15. PROVIDE JUNCTION AND/OR PULL BOXES WHEN NECESSARY OR REQUIRED BY NEC.
SHALL BE USED.
16. INSTALL GREEN INSULATED GROUND WIRE IN ALL CIRCUITS. SIZE PER NEC REQUIREMENTS OR THE SAME AS
PHASE CONDUCTORS, WHICHEVER IS LARGER. UNLESS INDICATED OTHERWISE.
17. ALL NEW WIRING, CONDUIT, AND JUNCTION BOXES SHALL BE CONCEALED WITHIN NEW WALLS, CEILINGS OR FLOOR
SPACES. SURFACE MOUNT CONDUIT ON OLD WALLS AND CEILINGS. RUN ALL SURFACE RACEWAY TIGHT TO THE
STRUCTURE, PARALLEL TO BUILDING LINES.
18. NO FOREIGN EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LOCATED WITHIN THE SPACE ABOVE OR BELOW THE ELECTRIC PANELS.
19. PROVIDE SIGNAGE ON ALL ELECTRIC PANELS TO KEEP THE SPACE 36" IN FRONT OF THE PANELS FREE OF
OBSTRUCTIONS.
20. PROVIDE WARNING LABEL ON ALL PANELS "WARNING, ELECTRICAL ARC FLASH HAZARD, PERSONAL PROTECTION
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED, FAILURE TO COMPLY CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH, REFER TO NFPA 70E." WHERE THE
TERMINAL OF THE DISCONNECTING MEANS MAY BE ENERGIZED IN THE OPEN POSITION, A WARNING SIGN SHALL BE
MOUNTED ON OR ADJACENT TO THE DISCONNECTING MEANS. THE SIGN SHALL BE CLEARLY LEGIBLE AND HAVE THE
FOLLOWING WORDS OR EQUIVALENT: "WARNING - ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD, DO NOT TOUCH TERMINALS. TERMINALS
ON BOTH THE LINE AND THE LOAD SIDES MAY BE ENERGIZED IN THE OPEN POSITION."
21. UPDATE PANEL BOARD DIRECTORY AS CIRCUITS ARE INSTALLED. PREPARE NEW TYPE WRITTEN PANEL
SCHEDULES.
22. ALL EXTERIOR EQUIPMENT SHALL BE IN WEATHERPROOF (NEMA 3R) ENCLOSURES. ALL NEW WIRING SHALL BE IN
CONDUIT, SUITABLE FOR SUN EXPOSURE AND WET LOCATIONS. FIELD APPLIED COATINGS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
23. ALL MARKING SHALL BE PER CODE REQUIREMENTS.
24. INVERTERS MUST COMPLY WITH UL 1741 TO PREVENT ISLANDING ON POWER FAILURE. THE INVERTERS SHALL NOT
PUT POWER ON TO THE GRID IF THE GRID IS OFF-LINE.
25. NOTHING IN THESE PLANS SHALL BE CONSTRUED TO CONTRADICT NEC, UL OR LOCAL CODES.
26. ALL SYSTEM COMPONENTS (MODULES AND INVERTERS ETC.) SHALL BE UL LISTED, UL2703 AND UL1703.
27. MOUNT TO ROOF USING UL APPROVED MOUNTING HARDWARE. FOLLOW MANUFACTURERS INSTALLATION
MANUALS.
28. MARK THE NEC REQUIRED CLEAR SPACE ON THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF ALL DEVICES BEING INSTALLED.
29. SUPPORT ALL ROOF MOUNTED CONDUIT WITH FOAM "SLEEPERS" IN UL APPROVED SYSTEM.
30. PV MODULES SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED OVER ANY PLUMBING OR MECHANICAL VENTS, EXHAUSTS OR CHIMNEYS.
31. REMOVAL OF INVERTER, METER OR OTHER EQUIPMENT SHALL NOT DISCONNECT THE BONDING CONNECTION
BETWEEN THE GROUNDING ELECTRODE CONDUCTOR AND THE PHOTOVOLTAIC SOURCE AND/OR OUTPUT CIRCUIT
GROUNDED CONDUCTOR.
32. ALL PV MODULES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM ANY PHYSICAL DAMAGE AND ACCESS
BY UNQUALIFIED PERSONS.
33. UTILITY IS 277/480V, 3 PHASE, 4W. PV SYSTEM IS UTILITY INTERACTIVE.
34. SYSTEM CARRIES A "CLASS A" FIRE RATING.

Per the request of Ryan Heil at PanelClaw, CTS was asked to review the
PanelClaw racking system with respect to the system’s ability to resist uplift and
sliding caused by wind and seismic loads.
Wind Evaluation:
PanelClaw has provided CTS with wind tunnel testing performed by CPP, Inc.
The system tested was the “clawFR 10 Degree” system. This system consists of
photovoltaic panels installed at a 10 degree tilt onto support assemblies. The
support assemblies consist of a support frame for the PV panels, wind deflectors
and areas for additional mass/weight as required for the ballast loads.
The wind tunnel testing was performed per Chapter 31 of ASCE 7-16. The
parameters of the testing were a flat roof system in both Exposure B and C on a
building with and without parapets. The testing has resulted in pressure and/or
force coefficients that were applied to the velocity pressure qz in order to obtain
the wind loads on the PV system. From the wind load results it is then possible to
calculate the ballast loads required to resist the uplift and sliding forces.
PanelClaw has provided CTS with the excel tool that was developed to obtain the
uplift and sliding forces. CTS has reviewed this tool and the wind forces obtained
to find that the amounts of ballast and mechanical attachments provided are
within the values required. Furthermore, CTS agrees with the methodologies
used to develop the uplift and sliding forces for the “clawFR 10 Degree” system
per the wind tunnel testing results.
Seismic Evaluation:
CTS was asked to review the PanelClaw system to determine attachments
required to resist seismic loading of the ballasted solar support system on the
roof of the existing building. Following CBC Load Combination 16-16 and ASCE
Section 2.4.5, the Dead Load value has been reduced by subtracting the vertical
component of the seismic forces (0.6*D - 0.14Sds*D). The contribution of friction
due to the component weight was not considered to resist lateral forces caused
by seismic loads per ASCE Section 13.4.
Utilizing this method, calculations have been provided for the number of
mechanical attachments that are required to resist seismic forces that are applied
to the system.

There are two categories of dead load used to perform the structural analysis of the PanelClaw racking system; Dead Load of the Array (DLA) and
Dead Load of the Components (DLC).
DLA is defined as the weight of the entire array including all of the system components and total ballast used on the array.

purpose of our review was to determine the adequacy of the existing structure to support the
proposed installation of solar panels on the roof as shown on the panel layout plan. Based upon
our review, we conclude that the existing structure is adequate to support the proposed solar
panel installation with the given geometry and weight restriction outline in this report.
The mechanical attachment for the PV ballast system is also designed in this calculation and can
be used if applicable.
The PV ballast system including requirements for blocks and mechanical attachments to resist

The increased weight due to the ballast installation is reported in the table below. A maximum
uniform load of 6.21 psf is conservatively assumed for the ballast system and the existing roof
structure is evaluated. Ballast weight is evenly distributed on the roof members.

(525 lbs) and lateral load (650 lbs) occur at the attachment points.
Mechanical Attachment Check:
The attachment is U-Anchor® U2600-APP. The datasheet for U-Anchor® U2600-APP is provided
