Wire Calculations
Wire ampacity calculated from CEC 310.16/310.17 as appropriate with ambient temperature calculations from CEC
310.15(B)(1)(1) and raceway fill adjustments from CEC 310.15(C)(1). Conduit on the roof shall be installed no less
than 1" above the roof deck. PV Circuit conductor ampacity is constrained using the 75°C column with the
continuous duty uprating or the 90°C column with the relevant ambient temperature and raceway fill adjustments
without the continuous duty uprating per 690.8(B), whichever is the lower value will govern conductor sizing.
Non-PV Circuit Conductors use the ampacity in the 75°C column or the 90°C column with the relevant ambient
temperature and raceway fill adjustments, whichever is less (110.14(C) & 310.15(A)(2)). The rating of the
conductor after adjustments shall be greater than, or equal to, the continuous duty uprated current.
Calc Ex: Wire Ampacity x Ambient Temp. Corr. Factor x Conduit Fill Adj. Factor >= Output Current
•Tag 1: Battery Output: 6 AWG rated 65A as per 75°C, 68.25A as per 90°C with adjustements >= 60.0A
•Tag 2: Load Center Output: 3 AWG rated 100A as per 75°C, 104.65A as per 90°C with adjustements >= 100.0A
Allowable Backfeed:
Allowable Backfeed = (Busbar Rating) x 1.2 - (Main Breaker Rating) =
225 A * 1.2 - 125 A = 145.0 A
100 A ≤ 145.0 A → Interconnection

POWERWALL
Backup Gateway
The Backup Gateway for Tesla Powerwall provides energy management
and monitoring for solar self -consumption, time -based control, and
backup.
The Backup Gateway controls connection to the grid, automatically
detecting outages and providing a seamless transition to backup
power. When equipped with a circuit breaker, the Backup Gateway can
be installed at the service entrance.
The Backup Gateway communicates directly with Powerwall, allowing
you to monitor energy use and manage backup energy reserves from
any mobile device with the Tesla app.

Powerwall 3
Power Everything
2024
—
Powerwall 3 is a fully integrated solar and battery system, designed to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. Customers
can receive whole home backup, cost savings, and energy independence by producing and consuming their own energy while
participating in grid services. Once installed, customers can manage their system using the Tesla App to customize system
behavior to meet their energy goals.
Powerwall 3 achieves this by supporting up to 20 kW DC of solar and providing 11.5 kW AC of continuous power per unit. It has
the ability to start heavy loads up to 185 A LRA, meaning a single unit can support the power needs of most homes. Powerwall 3
is designed for mass production, fast and efcient installations, easy system expansion, and simple connection to any electrical
service.

11 When protected by Class J fuses, Backup Gateway 2 is
suitable for use in circuits capable of delivering not more
than 22kA symmetrical amperes.
12 Cellular connectivity subject to network operator service
coverage and signal strength.
—
Backup Gateway 2 controls connection to the grid when paired with Powerwall 3, automatically detecting outages and providing
seamless transition to backup power. Backup Gateway 2 also provides energy metering for solar self-consumption, time-based
control, and backup operation.
In this system conguration,Powerwall 3 acts as the Site Controller, with the Backup Gateway 2 Site Controller disabled.
User Interface Tesla App
Operating Modes Support for solar self-
consumption, time-based
control, and backup
Backup Transition Automatic disconnect for
seamless backup
Modularity Supports up to 10 AC-
coupled Powerwalls
