Prior to placement of concrete, footings, a soils engineer shall inspect and certifyTe excavations to assure that design soil bearing values have been attained. 2) Foundation design is based on non -expansive soil. Soils engineer shall verify requried depth, width and reinforcement of footing if found that soil is expansive. The Contractor shall notify the structural design engineer in writing if soil is found to be expansive so that footings are redesigned prior to pouring of concrete foundations. 3) Compaction efforts shall attain a minimum 90% of Maximum Dry Density in accordance with A.S.T.M. 1556 and 1557. 4) Existing foundations are assumed to be in good condition. Contractor shall notify the eniineer of any foundation with sigificant differential settlement, severe cracking or any indication d structural failure or dis ress or defect, 5) The contractor shall be responsible for shoring, fence enclosures and protection life and property until the project is complete. 6) A diligent search shall be conducted by the soils engineer and rading or general contractor to locate cesspools, septic tank etc. if found, proper abandonmen? procedure shall be conduct as directed by he soils engineer. Abandonment and/or compaction report shall be submitted to the City Building Department and engineer of record. 7) Existing footings supporting new additional loads shall be certified by the soils engineer to verify that bearing capactiy of existing soils is at least 1,000 psf. If existing soil bearing capacity is less than 1,000 psf, the structural design engineer shall be notified immediately in Writing so that proper adjustments can be made.
