HomeMy WebLinkAbout20172564 - Permit (2)EXPEDITED PERMIT PROCESS FOR PV SYSTEMS
STANDARD STRINC SYSTEM
The Solar America Board for Codes and Srandards (Solar ABCs) Expedited Permit Pro-
cess provides a means to differentiate systems that can be permitted quickly and easily
due to their similarity with the majority of small-scale PV systems. Those systems with
unique characteristics may be handled with small additions to this Expedited Permit
Process or may require much more information, depending on the uniqueness of the
installation.
The following pages contain forms for the Standard String System !o use with the Expe-
dited Permit Process. The Micro-lnverter, AC Module. and Supply-Side Connection forms
are also available as interactive PDF files at www.solarabcs.org/permifiing. ln jurisdic-
tions that have adopted the Expedited Permit Process for PV Systems, these forms can
be filled out electronically and submitted in either printed form and via email. An elec-
tronic format is used so that the supplied information is standardized and legible for the
local jurisdiction.

EXPEDITED PEI{MIT PIIOCESS FOR SMALL-SCALE PV SYSTEMS
STANDARD STRINC SYSTEM
The informarion in rhis guideline is intended to help local jurisdicrions and contractors identify when Pv system installarions
are simplg needing only a basic review, and when an installalion is more complex. It is likely that 50 %-759 of all residential
sysEms will comply with these simple crireria. For projects that fail to meet the simple crireria, resolu on sreps have been
suElgested to provide as a path to permit approval.
Requbed lr{oflnation for Permit:
l. Ste plan showing location of major components on the properry. This drawing need not be exacdy to scale, but it
should represent relative location oF components at site (see supplied example site plan). PV arrays on dwellings
with a 3' perimeter space at ridge and sides may not need separate hre service review.
2. Electrical diagram showing PV array conhguration, wiring system, overcurrent prorection, inverter, disconnects,
required signs, and ac connefiion to building (see supplied srandard elecrrical diagram).
1. Specificarion sheets and inshllation manuals (if available) for all manufactured components including. but not
limi[ed to, PV modules, invener(s). combiner box, disconnects. and mounting system.

Step 9: Electrical Review o[ PV System (Calculations lor Electrical Diagram)
ln order for a PV s)6tem to be considercd fior an expedited permit procecs, the Aonowing must apply:
1. PV modules, utility-interactive inverters, and combiner boxes are idenfifled for use in PV systems.
2. The PV array is composed of 4 series strings or less per inverter
3. The total inverter capaciry has a continuous ac power output 13,440 Warts or less
4. The ac interconneclion point is on l'he load side of service disconnecting means (690.64(8)).
