Reference: Use of the EBBA Iron Inc. "Flex -Tend" Expansion Joint

After conducting a visual inspection on the installation of the referent joint at the Cal Trans
Bui[ldiiing in Irvine, Califomia, I am recommending approval for the fitting to be used oriented in
a horizontal position. My recommendation is based on the provision that the following
conditions be met:
1_ The fitting shall be supported in such a manner that will prevent possible sag in the
expansion joint.
2. A bi-annual "Special inspection," performed by City of Santa Ana Building Safety
Division inspection staff, shall be scheduled by the First American Title Corp. Facility
Building Maintenance Superintendent for verification of proper operation of the
"expansion joint units" until such time as the "administrative authority having jurisdiction"
is satisfied with the continued proper operation of the fitting.
Although the use of this fitting in a horizontal position has not been approved by a listing
agency, it has been accepted by the Cities of Los Angles, tong Beach, San Francisco and
Irvine.
