OWNER OR HIS/HER AGENT HAS PROVIDED ARCHITECTURAL PLANS.
THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER HAS PERFORMED STRUCTURAL DESIGN
FOR THE PROJECT. THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER ACCEPTS NO
RESPONSIBILITY FOR ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPTS.
GENERAL
1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL DIMENSIONS AND CONDITIONS AT
SITE AND NOTIFY THE ARCHITECT OF ALL DISCREPANCIES.
2. SEE ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS FOR DOORS, WINDOWS, NON -BEARING
INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR WALLS, ELEVATIONS, SLOPES, STAIRS, CURBS,
DRAINS, DEPRESSIONS, RAILINGS, WATERPROOFING, FINISHES, ETC.
3. ALL WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS SHALL BE GOOD QUALITY. WHERE
NOT SHOWN ON THE PLANS THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MEET INDUSTRY
STANDARDS AND LOCAL CODES.
4. THE NOTES ON THIS SHEET SHALL BE USED WHENEVER APPLICABLE
UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THE DRAWINGS; NOTES & DETAILS
ON DRAWINGS SHALL TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER GENERAL NOTES &
TYPICAL DETAILS.

W.C.L.I.B., SIZES AS DEFINED IN P.S. 20-70. UNLESS OTHERWISE
NOTED ON PLANS, THEFOLLOWING MINIMUM SHALL APPLY:
a. CATEGORY GRADE LIGHT FRAMING STANDARD STRUCTURAL LIGHT
FRAMING #2 FOR 2x MEMBERS #1 FOR 3x AND 4x MEMBERS.
b. ALL PLYWOOD SHALL CONFORM TO P.S.1-88 AND SHALL BE
GRADE, INDEX NUMBER, AND THICKNESS CALLED ON PLANS. ALL
PLYWOOD SHALL BE BONDED WITH EXTERIOR GLUE. ALL PLYWOOD
EXPOSED TO THE WEATHER SHALL BE EXTERIOR TYPE PLYWOOD.
2. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON PLANS ALL EXTERIOR WALLS, INTERIOR BEARING
WALLS AND MAIN CROSS WALLS SHALL BE BRACED BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
METHODS:
a. WHERE INTERIOR WALL COVERING IS 1/2" GYPSUM BOARD, NAIL WITH 5d
COOLER NAILS AT 7" O.C. AT ALL STUDS AND AT TOP AND BOTTOM PLATES.
NO EDGE BLOCKING REQUIRED.
b. 1 x6 CONTINOUS DIAGONAL BRACE LET INTO STUDS AT SUCH AN ANGLE SO
AS TO CROSS A MINIMUM OF 4 STUD SPACES, NAIL AT STUDS & PLATES
PER NAILING SCHEDULE.
c. MINIMUM 5/16" PLYWOOD NAILED AT STUDS AND PLATES WITH 6d NAILS AT
6" O.C. PANEL SHALL BE MINIMUM 4' WIDE AND cp 25' MAXIMUM INTERVALS.
3. ALL LUMBER IN CONTACT WITH CONCRETE SHALL BE PRESSURE TREATED.
4. BLOCKING SHALL BE PROVIDED PER LOCAL CODES.
5. ALL NAILS SHOULD BE COMMON NAILS AND NAIL SPACING SHOULD BE PER
LOCAL BUILDING CODE SCHEDULE UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE ON THE
STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS.
6. WHERE PLUMBING, HEATING, OR OTHER PIPES NECESSITATE THE CUTTING OF SOLE
OR PLATES, THE CUT SOLE OR TOP PLATES SHALL BE TIED BY A MINIMUM 1 /8"
THICK BY 1 1/2" WIDE STRAP WITH 4-16d NAILS EACH END.
7. PRIOR TO COVERING, ALL NAILING OF ROOF, FLOOR AND SHEAR WALL SHEATING
SHALL BE INSPECTED AND APPROVED BY THE BUILDING INSPECTOR. WHERE USED
AS SHEATING FOR SHEAR WALLS PER SHEAR WALLS PER SHEAR WALL SCHEDULE
OR AS WALL BRACING PER NOTE NUMBER 2B THIS SECTION, THE NAILING OF ALL
GYPSUM BOARD SHALL BE INSPECTED AND APPROVED PRIOR TO TAPING OF
JOISTS.
SHEAR WALL NOTES
1. STUCCO AND/OR STUCCO WITH VENEER OVER A PLYWOOD SHEAR WALL WILL
BE WATERPROOFED WITH A MINIMUM OF(2)15# FELT UNDERLAYMENTS.
2. ONLY COMMON NAILS WILL BE USED FOR ALL PLYWOOD SHEAR WALLS AND
NAIL GUNS USING " CLIPPED HEAD" OR "SINKER" NAILS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
3. ALL BOLT HOLES TO BE DRILLED 1 /32" MIN. TO 1 /16" MAX. OVERSIZED.
ENGINEER TO VERIFY.
4. DOUGLASS-FIR (GROUP 11 LUMBER) PRESSURE TREATED SILL PLATES WILL BE
USED ENGINEER TO BE NOTIFIED FOR REDESIGN IF OTHER SPECIES SILLS
ARE DELIVERED TO THE SITE (OR ARE PART OF THE EXISTING BUILDING).
5. THE FOLLOWING APPLIES TO ALL SHEAR WALLS WITH A LISTED DESIGN
LOAD GREATER THAN 300 PLF.:
a. PROVIDE 3x SILL PLATES FOR SILLS THAT REST ON CONCRETE OR
MASOORY.
b. PROVIDE 3x STUDS BETWEEN ADJACENT PANELS. IF ITS NECESSARY TO
USE 2-2x MEMBERS BETWEEN PANELS, SPECIFY 16d NAILS WITH
STAGGERED NAILING, AND SPACING NO GREATER THAN THE REQUIRED
PLYWOOD EDGE NAILING.
c. PROVIDE 1/2" EDGE DISTANCE FOR PLYWOOD BOUNDARY NAILING.
d. PLATE WASHERS ARE TO BE USED WITH ANCHOR BOLTS.

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES SHALL APPLY:
1. A PRE -CONSTRUCTION MEETING INCLUDING THE ENGINEER OR ARCHITECT
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION, THE CONTRACTOR, AND
AN APPROPRIATE SUBCONTRACTOR SHALL BE HELD TO REVIEW THE DETAILS
OF THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM TO BE STRUCTURALLY OBSERVED.
2. DURING THE COURSE OF CONSTRUCTION, THE ENGINEER OR ARCHITECT SHALL
VISUALLY REVIEW THE STRUCCTURAL SYSTEM FOR GENERAL CONFORMANCE
WITH THE APPROVED PLANS. ANY OBSERVED DEFICIENCIES SHALL BE
REPORTED IN WRITTING TO THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE, TO THE
CONTRACTOR, AND TO THE DEPARTMENT.
3. UPON COMPLETION OF THE APPLICABLE SHEAR WALLS AND/OR THE
ANCHORAGE SYSTEM AND PRIOR TO COVERING THE SHEAR
WALLS/ANCHORAGE, THE ENGINEER/ARCHITECT PERFORMING THE
STRUCTURAL OBSERVATION SHALL SUBMITT A LETTER TO THE DEPARTMENT
WITH HIS/HER WET STAMP AND SIGNATURE ATTESTING TO(1) THE DATE ON
WHICH THE PRE-CONSTRUCTON MEETING WAS HELD AND (2) THE DATES ON
WHICH THE VISUAL REVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED. THE LETTER SHALL ALSO
IDENTIFY ANY REPORTED DEFICIENCIES WHICH, TO THE BEST OF THE
OBSERVER'S KNOWLEDGE, HAVE NOT BEEN RESOLVED.
4. PRIOR TO COVERING THE WORK, THE SHEAR WALLS AND/OR ANCHORAGE
SYSTEM SHALL BE INSPECTED AND APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT
INSPECTION STAFF ASSIGNED TO THE PROJECT . SUCH APPROVAL BY THE
DEPARTMENT IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO COVERING. THE ENGINEER/ARCHITECT
PERFORMING THE STRUCTURAL. OBSERVATION IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO
APPROVE THE COVERING OF THE SHEAR WALLS/ANCHORAGE SYSTEM,
HIS/HER STRUCTURAL OBSERVATIONS ARE ADVISORY ONLY AND THEY DO
NOT IN ANY WAY BIND THE DEPARTMENT OR CONSTITUTE A CERTIFICATION
THAT THE SHEAR WALLS WILL PASS DEPARTMENT INSPECTION.
HOLDDOWN CONNECTORS
1. PLATE WASHERS ARE TO BE USED. (HD -POST -PLATE WASHER). SEE 5d.
ABOVE FOR SIZES.
2. HD ANCHOR NUT TO BE TIGHTENED JUST PRIOR TO COVERING THE WALL
FRAMING. ENGINEER TO VERIFY.
3. DEPUTY INSPECTION REQUIRED PER TABLE 26-E AND 91.0306(A)2 FOR
HOLDDOWN ANCHOR BOLTS.
MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS:
1. PLYWOOD: PRODUCT STANDARD PS 1-83, DOUGLAS FIR -LARCH,
STRUCTURAL 1
2. WOOD FRAMING MEMBERS: DOUGLAS FIR -LARCH. NOTIFY ENGINEER IF
OTHER SPECIES OF LUMBER ARE DELIVERED TO THE SITE OR THE PART
OF THE EXISTING CONSTRUCTION.
3. CONCRETE: MINIMUM CONCRETE STRENGTH SHALL BE 2,500 PSI.
a. CEMENT SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM C150, TYPE I, 11, OR III PORTLAND
CEMENT.
b. HARD -ROCK AGGREGATES SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM C33. THEIR
MAXIMUM SIZE SHALL BE 1 -1/2 INCHES FOR FOOTINGS, CAISSONS,
AND GRADE BEAMS AND ONE INCH FOR ALL OTHER WORK.
c. LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES (CONFORM TO ASTM C330) SHALL BE
APPROVED AND THEIR MAXIMUM SIZE SHALL BE 1/2 INCH.
d. BEFORE CONCRETE IS POURED, CHECK WITH ALL TRADES TO INSURE
PROPER PLACEMENT OF ALL OPENINGS, SLEEVES, CURBS, CONDUITS,
BOLTS, INSERTS, ETC. RELATING WORK.
e. ONLY ONE GRADE OF CONCRETE SHALL BE POURED ON THE JOB AT
ONE TIME.
f. ALL SLEEVES NOT SPECIFICALLY SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS SHALL BE
LOCATED BY THE TRADES INVOLVED AND SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE
ENGINEER.
g. CONCRETE COVER OVER REINFORCING SHALL BE AS FOLLOWS:
1. POURED AGAINST EARTH 3"
2. EXPOSED TO EARTH, BUT POURED AGAINST FORMS 2"
h. CONCRETE GROUT SHALL BE NON -SHRINKING WITH SUFFICIENT
WATER TO ALLOW POURING, ULTIMATE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH F'C

4. BLOCK MASONRY:
a. UNITS SHALL BE MEDIUM WEIGHT CONCRETE BLOCK, GRADE N,

b. GROUT SHALL BE OF FLUID CONSISTENCY. GROUT MIX SHALL BE
ONE PART CEMENT, THREE PARTS SAND AND MAY CONTAIN AN

OR MORE IN EVERY DIRECTION. F'C-2,000 AT 28 DAYS.

d. ALL CELLS CONTAINING GROUT SHALL BE CONSOLIDATED BY
PUDDLING OR VIBRATING DURING PLACING AND RE-
