Water Heaters WATER HEATER SHAL BE AS SCHEDULED PART 4 - EXECUTION 4.01 INSTALLATION OF PIPING SYSTEMS A.: General I All pipe shall be carefully cleaned and all internal scale, sand, dirt, and I other debris removed before installation. All pipe runs shall be made up of full length sections of pipe or of lengths of pipe cut to fit. Any necessary short lengths of pipe shall be used at ends of pipe runs. B. Cleaning and Flushing All piping systems containing water after assembly and prior to being hydrostatically tested, shall be flushed clean of all loose scale, dirt and foreign matter; suitable means for draining and disposing of the waste water shall be provided by the Contractor at all low points and at point of entrapment. C. Seismic Restraints All plumbing piping systems, and equipment shall be seismically braced in accordance with guidelines set forth in the Guidelines for Seismic Restraints of Mechanical Systems and Plumbing Systems as published by SMACNA & the PPIC. Steel Lines shall be make up with threaded joints reamed out full size. All pipe threads shall be cut with new clean dies, full thickness of the die, and so not more than two I threads are left exposed on the pipe after the joint is made up. b. Threaded Connections shall be made up with pipe dope. c. Unions shall be inserted at all equipment and adjacent to all valves with threaded ends. d. Reducers shall be used where necessary. Bushings are not acceptable.. e. Protection: Piping installed underground shall be wrapped (1/2 lap) with 2-inch wide Scotch Tape No. 52 (Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company) or shall be given 2 coats of bitumastic paint, the first coat being permitted to dry before the second is applied. Piping shall not be installed until the second coat is thoroughly dry. The joint shall be made up with red lead coated threads, and sections painted with black bitumastic paint approximately 18-inches each side of each fitting, as well as overall tool or wrench marks or other marks where zinc coat is broken. Paint coat shall be applied thoroughly and dried before trench is backfilled, f. Escutcheons, stainless steel friction type, shall be installed on all exposed pipe passing through finished walls, ceilings, or floors. Split ring escutcheons are not acceptable. g. Dielectric fittings shall be installed where piping of dissimilar metals are connected and where indicated on the drawings. Where piping passes through floor slabs, the Contractor shall be responsible to verify that the piping does not come in contact with reinforcing steel or piping. (1) Screwed Fittings: Install a Walter Vallett dielectric coupling between the pipes. (Dielectric unions are not acceptable.) (2) Flanged Fittings: Use asbestos gaskets on both sides of insulating gasket or use insulating gasket faced with asbestos or neoprene. 4.02 FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT CONNECTIONS AND PENETRATIONS A. Vertical Piping . Vertical piping shall be adequately braced at the nearest horizontal joint and at all fixture connections. Piping shall not be attached to the steel fixture support. B. Pitch of Piping 1. Drain lines shall pitch in the direction of flow not less than 1/4- inch per foot. 2. Soil, waste and sewer lines shall pitch as indicated. 3. Horizontal vent lines shall be installed with maximum possible pitch back to the fixture. C. Shock Arrestors I To control water hammer a shock arrestor shall be installed at each battery of fixtures and where indicated. D. Sleeves Sleeves shall be crete-sleeve. A core drill shall be used for any holes required after the concrete is poured. Where pipes pass through waterproof foundations, waterproofed walls or floors, the sleeve shall be caulked tight with oakum and mastic. , E. Vent Piping Vent piping shall be collected where possible to minimize roof penetrations and shall not be installed closer than I 0-feet from the roof edge. F. Flashings I For pipes passing through the roof, install an approved unit with 6- pound, 8-inch seamless lead flashing assembly with steel reinforced boot and be complete with cast iron counterflashing sleeve and permaseal waterproofing compound.
