Parking spaces and access aisles shall be designed so that persons using them are not required to travel behind parking spaces other than to pass behind the parking space in which they parked.Response: Revised path. See revised path.Second Plan Check Comments: The revised accessible route still showing travel path behind a parking space. This item remains outstanding.First Plan Check Comments: Provide accessible route from building entrance to trash enclosure.11B-206.2.8 Employee work areas. Common use circulation paths within employee work areas shall comply with Section 11B-402.EMPLOYEE WORK AREA. All or any portion of a space used only by employees and only for work. Corridors, toilet rooms, kitchenettes and break rooms are not employee work areas.11B-402.2 Components. Accessible routes shall consist of one or more of the following components: walking surfaces with a running slope not steeper than 1:20, doorways, ramps, curb ramps excluding the flared sides, elevators, and platform lifts. All components of an accessible route shall comply with the applicable requirements of Division 4.Second Plan Check Comments: CBC Section 11B-206.2.8 exemption 3 exempts accessible route within Employee work area where employee work areas are fully exposed to the weather. However, accessible route from the building to the trash enclosure is not exempt. The ADA Standards exempts raised employee work areas that are less than 300 SF and raised 7” or more if it is essential to the work being done. It also exempts employee only spaces that are less than 1,000 SF and defined by partitions, furnishing, and built-ins. Either of these exemptions might apply to a trash area at an interior location. Do note, that neither of these exemptions are allowed per the California Building Code. The trash-enclosure city handout is an outdated design. Therefore, effective immediately, trash enclosure handout is no longer available at the Permit counter. Sheet A1.0First Plan Check Comments: Specify the required length, height, and depth at accessible counter.
11B-904.4 Sales and service counters. Sales counters and service counters shall comply with Section 11B-904.4.1 or 11B-904.4.2. The accessible portion of the counter top shall extend the same depth as the sales or service counter top.
11B-904.4.1Parallel approach. A portion of the counter surface that is 36 inches long minimum and 34 inches high maximum above the finish floor shall be provided. A clear floor or ground space complying with Section 11B-305 shall be positioned for a parallel approach adjacent to the 36 inch minimum length of counter.
Exception: Where the provided counter service is less than 36 inches long, the entire counter surface shall be 34 inches high maximum above the finish floor.11B-904.4.2 Forward approach. A portion of the counter surface that is 36 inches long minimum and 34 inches high maximum shall be provided. Knee and toe space complying with Section 11B-306 shall be provided under the counter. A clear floor of ground space complying with Section 11B-305 shall be positioned for a forward approach to the counter.Response: Please refer to plan sheet A11.0. All of the required information is shown on this plan sheet.Second Plan Check Comments:Please specify 34 inches high maximum above the finished floor on elevation drawings on sheet A11.0.The maximum dimension indicates construction tolerance should not be considered should there be any construction field issues.Sheet A6.2First Plan Check Comments: Specify 30 inches minimum parapet on Wall Section 1 and 2.Response: Please refer to plan sheet A5.0 for requested minimum parapet heights.Second Plan Check Comments:Sheet A5.0 is missing on one set of plan.
