For the purpose of determining fire separation distance, detached ADU and the existing dwelling on the same lot shall be assumed to have an imaginary line between them. Revise site related plans, floor plans and roof plans to show compliance.Where a new detached ADU is to be erected on the same lot as an existing dwelling, the location of the assumed imaginary line shall be at least 5 feet, measured perpendicularly from the exterior wall of the existing dwelling.R302.1.
