REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JUNE 5, 2018 <br />TITLE: <br />COUNCIL COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS - <br />PUBLIC SAFETY, CODE ENFORCEMENT <br />AND NEIGHBORHOOD EMPOWERMENT <br />AND TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, <br />INFRASTRUCTURE AND TECHNOLOGY <br />COMMITTEES <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5, 1) <br />CIT MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1s' Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2n° Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Appoint a member to the Public Safety, Code Enforcement and Neighborhood Empowerment <br />Committee and confirm appointment of Councilmember Benavides to the Economic <br />Development, Infrastructure and Technology Committee. <br />On February 21, 2017, the City Council reviewed and appointed members for a two-year term <br />to the various council committees. On May 22, 2018, Councilmember Benavides submitted <br />his resignation on the Public Safety, Code Enforcement and Neighborhood Empowerment <br />Committee and expressed an interest in being considered to serve on the Economic <br />Development, Infrastructure, Budget and Technology, since they currently have two members <br />serving. All appointments require majority approval by the City Council. Also, with the <br />resignation on the Public Safety, Code Enforcement and Neighborhood Empowerment <br />Committee, there is an opportunity for another member to be appointed to serve on that <br />committee. Council committees may have 2-3 members and no member of the City Council <br />may serve on more than two (2) committees. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #5 Community Health, Livability, <br />Engagement & Sustainability, Objective #1 (Establish a comprehensive community <br />engagement initiative to expand access to information and create opportunities for <br />stakeholders to play an active role in discussing public policy and setting priorities). <br />65E-1 <br />
