• David De Leon, opined need to get to the substance of the issue, to no <br />longer table items, and limit discussion time; concerned with allocation of <br />funds; Mater Dei is supported by the Catholic church. <br />• Joese Hernandez, expressed concern over public schools lack of funding, <br />Mater Dei's request for funds that should go to underfunded public schools, <br />and opined need to support public schools and not just private schools. <br />• Margarita Gonzalez, expressed opposition to item, concern over lack of <br />parking, and disrepair of streets. <br />• Olga Olivares, urged City Council to vote no on the funding; public schools <br />need support; funding private school hurts public schools. <br />• Valerie Amezcua, representing the Santa Ana Unified School District, noted <br />that District has a 93% graduation rate; considerable investments made in <br />arts, drama, mental health, and expansion of programs; concerned that City <br />Council support of a private entity and not public school. <br />• Patrick Murphy, noted Mater Dei High School is not requesting any funds <br />from the City of Santa Ana and clarified Mater Dei is asking City Council to <br />direct staff to communicate with OCTA regarding excess revenue from <br />Bristol Street widening project that can be used to improve city streets in the <br />area; public safety improvements for the benefit of the residents and not the <br />students of the students. <br />Staff presented options to fund public improvements of Mater Dei High School <br />Expansion Project: <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 32 JUNE 5, 2018 <br />
