GENERAL FUND <br />PARKS, RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAM <br />Library Young Adult Services 01111180 <br />Statement of;Purpose . <br />Young Adultprovides Santa Ana teens and young adults a safe place to study and gather with friends, which also provides mentoring and training <br />to develop civic engagement and enhance personal development. <br />Young Adult Services serves patrons from high-school age through college age. They are assisted in choosing books, audiovisual and electronic <br />materials, and in the use of library resources and services. This section evaluates library materials for purchase and for removal from the young <br />adult collections in accord with the collection development plan. Young Adult Services develops and implements programs to assist teens and <br />young adults in furthering their education, improving their personal lives and preparing for their future. It manages the Library's volunteer program. <br />It also staffs and maintains the Santa Ana History Room, which collects and makes available to the public materials on Santa Ana history. It staffs <br />the TeenSpace at the Main Library, Newhope branch, Garfield Community Center and the Jerome Recreation Center. <br />Acciitnplshment11 s in'FY 2017 18 <br />* Managed and implemented the 6th year of the WIOA grant funded "Seeds to Trees Digital Media Technology Academy" that provides paid <br />internship to 22+ by cooperating with other sections and local businesses to train and mentor young adults in digital media. <br />* Successfully applied for and received an LSTA grant of $65,800 for Youth Know: Community Social Innovation Project that empowers 200+ youth <br />to learn about and find community based solutions to homelessness, community sustainability, health and food insecurity via workshops, targeted <br />volunteerism and paid interships, <br />* Continued the Strategic Plan Youth Civic Engagement Initiative, which has thus far coordinated 35 events/activities for 5000+ participants, <br />Successfully applied for and received a Google and ALA funded Libraries Ready to Code grant of $25,000 for Youth Know Computer Science for <br />Civic Engagement Project which provides computer science, and computational thinking program for 200+ youth. <br />°Action Plan fo.I FY 2D1$ 19 ,. , . ` .., „ <br />• Continue to seek out resources to fund programs that promote youth development, civic engagement, STEM leaming and workforce skills <br />development. <br />* Continue to provide extensive educational and recreational programs for teens at all four sites. <br />* Continue to expand the scope of operations of the Santa Ana History Room through grants and integration of youth into this programming, <br />* Continue Seeds to Trees model of youth worldorce development and expand to other professional areas. <br />* Continue to develop Youth Civic Engagement intems. <br />CIEK <br />MEASURES <br />'.'
