The firm's drainage engineering services include the design of canals, culvert crossings, water control structures, roads, levees, bridges,
and pump structures. Representative project areas range in size from one to more than 130,000 acres, and our engineers have been
called upon by numerous public agencies and major agricultural, industrial, and residential developers. Our staff has the expertise to
conduct preliminary studies and drainage consultation, prepare stormwater management plans, conduct bridge scour analysis, prepare
FEMA map revisions, perform floodplain analysis, and coordinate permit applications on behalf of our clients.
Water Quality
Kimley-Horn has performed a long list of documents to comply with stormwater
regulations over the years. These range from Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans
(SWPPP), Water Quality Technical Reports (WOTR), Water Pollution Control Plans (WPCP),
Water Duality Management Plans (WOMP), and Hydromodification Reports/Plan. To
provide the best value to our clients, we stay as current as possible with changes in
the regulations throughout the state. Kimley-Horn engineers have been responsible for
preparing over 25 SWPPP documents a year over the last eight years for both public and
private sector projects. Additionally, our staff has experience preparing and obtaining
approvals from Caltrans on SWPPP documents. Our designers are able to recognize and
provide cost-effective solutions to reduce pollutants leaving the construction site.
Water and Sewer Assessments
Kimley-Horn has experience in all phases of project planning studies, design, and construction management of sewer and wastewater
projects. The Kimley-Hom team's recent wastewater experience includes designing the sewer relocation of a 54" sanitary sewer
trunk line for the Fullerton Road Grade Separation project. We have a growing list of collection system condition assessment projects
including flow monitoring, infiltration and inflow assessments, smoke and dye testing, hydraulic modeling, rehabilitation/replacement
recommendation, capital improvement planning, master planning, rate studies, pipe lining, pipe bursting, bypass pumping, trenchless
construction, lift station improvements, and odor and corrosion inspection and control. Firm wide, our staff has designed hundreds of
miles of utility infrastructure ranging in size from four inches to 120 inches. These designs often have facilitated the extension of utility
service to communities previously not served, extended the life of existing infrastructure through rehabilitation and/or repair, or provided
new facilities to replace aging infrastructure.
Civil Support
Kimley-Horn is experienced in dealing with complex site -civil components for educational, municipal, institutional, sports facilities, and
redevelopment projects. We understand the challenges created by the vast network of underground utilities that are typically required
to serve these facilities. We recognize that vehicular and pedestrian access requirements governed by the Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA) are often challenging, requiring close coordination with the project stakeholders and design team to meet the needs of all
users. We are adept at building consensus with regulatory agencies, which is critical to the process. Kimley-Horn offers a full range of
development services for site development including:
• Due diligence evaluations for project costs, development process, and site services
• Preliminary site engineering evaluations in conjunction with architectural and use planning
• Final design of site utility, pedestrian connectivity, parking and access, and site grading construction documents
• Construction phase services including bid assistance and evaluations, field observation services, contractor inquiries,
and final site compliance evaluations
