CSG PROAOSAI. TO SANTA ANA
Max QNr PROJEc'r
PROJECT SPECIFIC APPROACH
CSG has examined the Request for proposal.(RFIA) and understands that the City of Santa Ana is seeking firms
to design the Mile One Street project. Primarily, the project involves a Complete Street Design concept with
omphaslzeto ensure safety,' accessibility, and convenience of all transportation users—pedestrians,
bicyclists, transit riders, and motorists are considered. Mile One Street Is a six -lane arterial (9 lanes In each
direction) with a 14' wide median Island to design for a bike lane with 4' buffer to be added in the east -bound
direction, The addition of bicycle lanes will Improve bicycle connectivity, and increase bicycle travel an Mile
One Street and in the surrounding area,
To accommodate a bike lane concept Into the design the following bullets will be analyzed and will be
reported to the City's PM,
• fioadway reconfiguration (narrowing of lanes; new roadway striping)
• Roadway resurfacing treatments (slurry seal, or to he determined pavement rehabilitation)
• Green bike lanes (typically. near intersections, or ih otherwise high -conflict areas)
• Bike buffers, as space allows
Bicycle activation (Including modifications to existing traffic signal hardware, now inductive loops
andtor video detection for bicyclists and motorists)
• Modification of existing concrete median Islands and curbs
Installation of related signage
• Modifications to parking
CSG has prepared Table A (provided on the following page) to show a•matrixofexisting conditions and
Potential Improvements that will be considered for each road segment. The addition of Bike lane cin east side
of the street, with no reduction in the number of lanes, and possibly removal of on -street parking,
Note: me OoWe, cable. assumes that the number of lanes will not be reduced to accommodate marked bike lanes. Reduction of the number of lanes Is
not recommended due to potential sldnlflcant Impacts on traffic and associated additional studies required (environmental, traffic, level of service,
etc.).
TABLE A: Mile One ,
Existing Condition$ Pavement
Treatment
potential upgrades and
IrimprottobJents
W_
Street segment
co
.e
ru
,
"^
w
en
Mile One Street
1,000
6
x
x
x
v
✓
✓
x
120'
Y
TRD
TBD
Y
Y
Y
Y
N
18
Y
Note: me OoWe, cable. assumes that the number of lanes will not be reduced to accommodate marked bike lanes.
