The opportunity to work collaboratively with local muralists to capture the history
and heritage of Santa Ana Is a significant opportunity for our students. As Santa Ana Unified School District has
achieved its 1301" year and the city approaches its 1501h year, there is much rich culture and roots put down on which
our current students are able to build. It's important for them to know and connect to those roots as we create civic -
minded students who are engaged in their community and want to give back and stay connected. This opportunity will
be rich and robust and provide multiple levels of student engagement with the community through partnership with
The Heritage Museum,
Santa Ana Unified has enjoyed a thriving partnership with the Heritage Museum who provides many educational and
experiential learning in the context of our community. The impact of the partnership includes 1.) building students'
awareness of the community, the city and its history and making it accessible to them; 2.) exposing students to the arts
in real-life settings and giving them access to local artists in the community 3.) emphasizing the value of art and art
education and the viability as related to the creative economy and the economic impact of the arts thereon, and 4.)
cultivating engaged young artists.
We recognize that our students have the opportunity to fuel the creative economy with one in to jobs being directly
connected, and new jobs emerging that are not yet developed. We need to prepare our students to step into this
important pipeline and can only do so through our critical partnerships with our community partners including The
Heritage Museum provides our students. As an arts equity district, SAUSD Is willing to support equitable access to high
quality arts education.
We wholeheartedly support The Heritage Museum grant proposal and are excited to continue to work together as we
build new programs, providing meaningful opportunities for our SAUSD students,
VR Nair
Visual and Performing Arts Specialist
Santa Ana Unified School District
President, California Art Education Association
=-..a
1601 East Chestnut Avenue, Santa Ana, OA 92701-6322 (714) 555-5501
BOAM OF EDUCATION
Valerie Amezcun, President - Rigo Rodriguez, Ph.D., Vice President
Alfonso Alvarez, Ed.D., Clerk • Cecilia "Ceci" aglesias, Member.
