DISCUSS AND PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR SANTA ANA UNIFIED <br />SCHOOL DISTRICT'S EFFORTS TO ADDRESS ALLEGED RACIST <br />BEHAVIOR AT THE ALISO NIGUEL V. SANTA ANA HIGH SCHOOL <br />FOOTBALL GAME - COUNCILMEMBERS SARMIENTO AND TINAJERO <br />Councilmember Sarmiento, expressed support for future joint effort <br />between City and Santa Ana Unified School District to address incidents <br />and allow for a teaching moment. <br />Councilmember Tinajero, noted a handful individuals created issue and not <br />all community members of Aliso Viejo feel the same way. Concerned over <br />comments made by the wife of the mayor of the City of Aliso Viejo against <br />the principle of Santa Ana High School. Importance of having both <br />superintendents who quickly communicated with each other to ensure this <br />is a teaching moment. <br />Valerie Amezcua, President of the Board of Education, addressed City <br />Council to convey goal of making this a teaching moment, need to bring <br />districts together to start the healing process. Thanked City Council for <br />supporting item. <br />Stefanie Phillips, Superintendent of Santa Ana Unified School District, <br />noted overwhelming support from districts and council.
